anyone know any clubs, schools, where badminton is played around Boston and the greater Boston area? Right now I play badminton around twice a week and hoping to find more places so I can play more. Thanks.
Well apparently I am the only member of BC from the Boston, MA US area. In case any of you guys ever show up around this part of the world, here's a brief list of places I've found where you can play badminton around here. I'll divided according to days of the week: Monday: 1) Needham High School, Needham. $20 / season (~12 weeks). 7:30-10pm. Tuesday: Haven't found a place yet. Wednesday: 1) Lincoln Hancock School, Quincy. $7 (member) $9(non-member) / session. 6:30-9:30pm. 2) Natick Armory, Natick. $8 / session. 7?-10pm? Thursday: 1) Sharon Middle School, Sharon. #45 / season (~12 weeks). 7:30-10:30pm. Friday: 1) Boston University. If pay, you can play Fri, Sat, and Sun, (whenever the gym is open) $20 / season (? not sure how long) 6:30-11pm. Saturday: 1)Boston University. 5-7pm? 2)MIT. Cambridge. $5 / session. time ? Sunday: 1)Boston University. 4-6pm? 2)Bedford High School, Bedford. $5 / session. 1:30-5pm. So far these are the closest places I've found around me, all within 30 min of driving.
I use to be a member of the harvard badminton club and the mit club. You might want to check those out.
Just moved to Boston and it seems to me that there isn't any cost-effective way to play badminton here in the Boston-metro area accessible by the "T". Could jwu or anyone help me out? I tried BU but I was told that they are not currently taking non-BU affiliated players. To get into MIT and Harvard's facilities is just way too expensive for non-students. Thanks a lot!
hey mkwan, welcome to boston first of all!! it is also where I would like to call, "badminton abyss". Actually BU do accept non-BU affiliated people, the only thing is the season ends in two weeks so that's probably why they told you no. PM me later and I'll let you know the schedule of the next session. MIT is kinda hard to get in and expensive if you don't know anyone at MIT. Um the above location, Quincy can be accessed by the red line, just need a little walk afterwards so not sure if you wanna do that. You can check their address online by doing a search for the school name in google.com. Best bet, BU (when it starts again in Jan), Quincy (kind of a hike), and MIT (find some connections). let me know if you need more help.
actually whereabout in boston are you? I live in Brighton and I work in Brookline. First friday in december, you can actually just show up at Boston Univ. and play, we can just sneak you in.
nice mkwan, next wednesday I am gonna play at Quincy too and if you want, I can give you a ride there since you are so close, just PM me your info.
I never recalled it being hard to play at MIT or Harvard. I'm always welcome to play there whenever I'm in town (rarely).
that might be coz u r really good? really good players can play anywhere anytime (erm... most of the time).
maybe times have changed Don. Harvard actually isn't too hard to get into, just expensive, about $10 each time and you need to go in with a Harvard affiliated person. As for MIT, you need to be either MIT affiliated, or you need to buy their atheletic pass which is about $400 USD a year or even higher, and then you have to pay $5 each time.
I go a few times every year, while I'm in town. I've never been turned back, nor do I pay. Pretty weird. I guess they like out of town players.
you make it sound like these two clubs are for the social elites. a lot of nice guy and gals, and the odd annoyance. you guys should play there, lots of good players.
Don, there is no doubt that these two clubs have great players and good people but I don't know why it is so, it really is very difficult and high cost for myself, and other people I know to get in. I guess maybe we are just not good enough or lack the right connections. I talked to people online that goes to the Harvard club who told me to just show up and play but when I went to the door, they told me I can't play since I am not Harvard affiliated. Maybe I can mention your name next time Don. seriously, it would be nice to play there. especially MIT, they got excellent facilities.
