i just came back from OCBC.

Peter vs. Peter was a very exciting match. on first two matches, Rasmussen was indeed showing some age, and perhaps lack in fitness due to off playing for so long. his smashes was lacking in power and in general wasn't able to keep up with Peter. there was also a larger percentage of errors from R. G was faster, sharper and more confident on the net than R.

R came more alive on the second game and seem to have recovered his usual attack form. he managed to get to 14-14 and finished it off at the end.

at the start of the 3rd game, Gade really picked up the pace, after the 2nd game, R was obviously not as fast and wasn't able to cope with Gade's attack. R went down pretty quickly to a much faster and powerful Gade....

i can't type too long. i will update the rest later...

forgot to say, the match lasted more than 1 1/2 hrs. the fact that Gade can pick up so much pace at the last game was simply amazing.

Don't worry. You can catch all the finals in a couple of days on streaming video from PlayBadminton . The presence of T. Gunawon alone has elevated the entire U.S. squad!!!

Was there a big crowd attending in the finals?

Did anybody do any cheerleading(or cheering)/shouting/blowing horns etc?

there is a pretty big crowd. small compared to other countries. but the OCBC stands were at least 80-90% filled.

there were some i believe locals who really cheered in the MD match. other matches, there weren't much other than clapping, like the AE type of clapping. but during the MD, it felt more like a real atmosphere. there were the characteristic, "WOOOooooAH!" type of cheering during smashes.

here is a pic from the final. you can see the almost full capacity stands.

    SmashingBird,
Bring some blank CDR tomorrow and I will burn them onto the CD for you. The videos are all in real player format. I supposed I could always convert them to mpeg or something.

it looks like that the venue is too small for a tournament..
