Social Badminton in Melbourne (prefer City or South East)

Hi All,

Having a bit of trouble here finding a social badminton group, am willing to drive either to the City or around the South East (where I'm currently based).

I'm pretty much beginners level, need to perhaps even refresh myself of the finer rules of the game as I have not touched a racket and shuttcock in over 3 years.

I'm also interested in the social aspect of the group as well as the badminton aspect, I wish to improve my skill level but also meet new mates to expand the social circle as well as filling up the social calendar. I will be willing to put my hand up for any social events that people might want to organise.

Much to my disappointment, my last two attempts to find a badminton social group was rejected. Group one was basically competition based and wanted members only with a certain skill level, the second group was full.

If anyone is able to help out by allowing me to join their group, it would be much appreciated.

Hey William,

There is a nice play to play socially in Glen Waverly. (Glen Waverly Secondary College)
We play on Tuesdays and Thursday nights from 7pm to 10pm.
Shuttles are provided and the level of play ranges accordingly.
However, in regards to social aspect, there isn't a lot going on.
But if u like, just rock up on day and there will be people there happy to help u get organised into the new group.

Or you can try Tues night at Nunawading Community Centre from 8-10pm. Friendly people and lots of court time too.

The costs is about $7pp. Sometimes it might be more if there're very few people attended, however, so far most of the time it's $7pp.

Does anyone have any info about the Melbourne Uni social hit-up?

FYI I play at Altona on Sundays and Essendon on Wednesdays. Probably a bit out of you way if you live in the SE 'burbs.

Melb uni social hit up = Sunday 2pm-5pm.
Monday = Springers 8pm, Nunawading, MSAC (Wesley group)
Tuesday = Nunawading/mulgrave/msac
Wed = MSAC (CCC), Keysborough (S/Star)
Thurs = Box hill (CCC), Waverley CC
Friday = Monash uni, Wantirna (CCC)
Sat = Wantirna (Titans)
Sun = Melb uni, Monash uni, S'Star

those are the places that I choose to play from, mostly inner melb or S/E burbs.

Yep. Friday - Monash University, Sports and Rec Stadium, 730pm, casual = $10. Finish 1030pm. Look for Gary or Loke Poh they'll look after you. Friendly crowd, skill levels range from beginner to advanced.

My opinion:
Skill level: D to B.
Shuttles: RSL Tournament (Sometimes they use other shuttles)
Price: $10 for Non Members and $5 for Members but best confirm with John

The Tuesday night session is mainly organized by Mark, who I believe is currently overseas at the moment. There are 4 supergiants there which takes turns each week in running the sessions. It works on an e-mail reservation basis on which you can be added to it after the first session. Please PM me for the e-mail and contact number of Mark. They start at 8pm and generally finish at 10pm.
