    Default Drop Shot help

Hello, my dropshots from midcourt and back almost always land in front of my opponents service line (between the service line and the net) but the shot is usaully very high over the net. I was wondering what I am doing wrong and if anyone had any possible suggestions to help make the drop tighter to the net.

    Thanks.

well, do you make a rainbow with your drops?
chances are that it revolves around your follow through, which helps it get that good angle/ speed/ deception.

most likely your taking the shuttle too low. If you get it at the highest point and the shuttle is in front of you, it can only go down. Taking it lower you will always be hitting under the shuttle causing it to float a bit higher or be pushed flatter with barely any angle at all.

So 1 . make sure your behind the shuttle.
2 . hit the shuttle at the highest possible point.

another little tip i was given at nationals was to add a little bit of a wrist flick. It gives a little bit more angle/sharpness to a fast drop.

    1) make sure you're in the right position, just a little bit behind shuttle
    2) make sure you're contacting at the highest point
    3) swing as normal
    BUT
    4) try to "listen" to the shuttle, creating a "softer" sound will help u to get the feel for a tigher netshot (this way you wont' be trying to cushion the shuttle too much either). Do this instead of trying to adjust the shot with your swing.

This is all assuming you're trying to play a very tight slow drop.

My mate has same prob but he wont listen to me lol

Wit the drop shot, there is hardly any wrist action like in a smash or clear, its about forearm and twisting it to make the shot work. But in general you slow down the racket head at the last second b4 impact.

You must b hittin it too hard. It should look like a smash or clear until the last sec when u slow down the racket head wit the shuttle jus infront of ur body.

    Hope this helps

What trajectory does the shuttle follow? eg is it flat, loopy, straight and downward (smash like)?
How quickly does the shuttle travel?
    How consistent is it?

Well I try to keep all my overhead shots looking the same, and I do seem to hit it fairly high. However, I'll try to keep it front of me more when I play next time.

Also, TheBear, it is much like a root curve. And it is not very consisten. When I try to make it land very close to the net, I sometimes end up making it slide down MY side of the net.

    1. contact point
    2. rather than swinging for it, start by using your wrist, a slight snap to begin with
    3. (maybe your slicing the bird? Meaning face raquethead forward)
    4. accuracy and consistency then deception
    5. practice
