The National Badminton League (NBL) Pro Classic will be held on Monday, July 6th at the San Gabriel Valley Badminton Club in El Monte, California. Ten of the world's best badminton players will compete in the unique NBL co-ed team format. Participants will include: TAUFIK HIDAYAT (Indonesia) - 2004 Olympic gold medalist, 2005 World Singles Champion HOWARD BACH (United States) - 2005 World Doubles Champion, 15-time U.S. National Champion, 2004 and 2008 Olympian DICKY PALYAMA (Netherlands) - 9-time Netherlands National Champion ANNA RICE (Canada) - 3-time Canadian Champion, 2008 Olympian RICHARD VAUGHAN (Wales) - 2002 and 2004 Olympian ANDREW DABEKA (Canada) - 2008 U.S. Open Champion, 2005 Pan American Games gold medalist, 2000, 2004 and 2008 Olympian CHARMAINE REID (Canada) - 5-time Canadian Champion, 2004 Olympian, 2003 Pan American Games gold medalist NICOLE GRETHER (Germany) - 2005 German National Champion, 2000 and 2004 Olympian JOO HYUN LEE (United States) - 3-time U.S. National Champion STEPHAN WOJCIKIEWICZ (Canada) - 2007 Pan American Games gold medalist, 2004 Canadian Champion The NBL format takes the sport of badminton, traditionally an individual sport, and lets men and women compete in a co-ed team format. Multiple games are played in men's singles, men's doubles, women's singles, women's doubles and mixed doubles. Each game won is a point in the total team score in the best-of-nine point format. In keeping with the co-ed emphasis of the NBL format, mixed doubles is always played as the final event. The San Gabriel Valley Badminton Club is located at 9255 Telstar Avenue in El Monte, California. The NBL Pro Classic begins at 6:30 pm on Monday, July 6.
