I wonder why they are not selling tickets based on days instead of season or half-season pass.

Maybe due to the limited no of seats in the stadium.

Badzine reported that weekly pass is about EURO 140....also they may switch off the AC during the play to avoid the drift....

Luckily, the stadium is not that hot and cannot accommodate too many people.

I think the organizers should close all windows and doors to reduce the drift, some were open during the India Open. If Lin Dan were playing then, he would complain a lot.

no air conditioning for this year WC in India?
    wadya think?

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS - No Air Conditioning? [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] According to an article published on July 1st in the Times of India, the organizers of the World Championships are considering switching off the air conditioning during play time. VK Verma, Badminton India's President was quoted as saying that cooling off the stadium before play could be an option to avoid drift problems during the event. "We intent to pre-cool the stadium and have matches for 2-3 hours without the air conditioners, following which there will be another break during which the venue will be once again pre-cooled. There won't be any AC during the matches," Verma told the Indian newspaper. This will be welcomed by the players who had experienced some problems controlling the shuttles during the latest India Open, which was held in the same venue as the World Championships.

In the other hand, it implies that play will have to be stopped every 2-3 hours. It will then be a nightmare for the referee to offer a suitable schedule so that players don't have to stop playing in the middle of their matches, especially for the first days of competition. Spectators, also, might have to stay within the stadium with nothing to watch - something that may be quite annoying, especially after the rates of tickets have been published and are way above expectation - the 9500 Rs (over 140 euros) weekly pass will definitely make it an elite sporting event, especially for the local population.

    Not bad..

..but not cheap either; i guess that's for the regular seatings? how about VIP type seatings??..so i guess they haven't figured out how to efficiently and effectively reduce the A/C drift..
.."the stadium is not that hot" is that with or without A/C??..

Btw, speaking of playing in a non-airconditioned hall, you guys should see pictures of malayali in one of the threads in the "Badminton Photography" sub-forum..:p

The stadium is not as hot, the weather is cooler than KL or Jakarta. I was able to survive a 6 km open air walk at midday.

There are no VIP type seating, only one type and I believe is free seating like in India Open. Remember, there are only 10 rows of seats. I suppose that's why the ticket prices are steeper than expected. Also the reason for not having anything other than whole week/half-week pass instead of sessions-based or daily-based tickets.

It would be interesting to see how the Li Ning clad players "thrive" without A/C in the Stadium. At Guangzhou, the A/C didn't help reduce their sweating .......

Hyderabad's weather is quite unlike that of Kochi (where malayali's sweat was pooling on the floor) :p

Hyderabad is a hinterland city - Kochi sits on the sea.
That means the humidity levels are usually very different.
For instance, Kochi's humidity today is 86% (Los Angeles too is 86%).
In Hyderabad, it's only 40% - this is drier than Shanghai or Beijing.

Also, Hyderabad is over a thousand kilometres away from Kochi.

As abedeng said, the draught within the venue would be of concern.
It's strange that the India Open organisers didn't pay close attention to such a critical point.

Just curious ah, how is the weather there compared to Msia? Their 'normal' day same with our cloudy day? If no air cond, then the players need to practice playing without air cond. ;)

    Off topic-Hmm..

..thank you both for sharing the additional infos on the local weather/climate and stadium.
..indeed, as i've mentioned a while back the atmosphere & surrounding of playing in India could present a possible interesting scenario for team CHN.

    Right on, OLDHAND.
Although the sweating might be a little less(er) compared to Kochi, HYD still be hot & if the air is turned off, it is going to be a struggle sitting inside that stadium! Thats for sure.....

    ^^Yep..^^

..considering the organizer is planning to turn off the A/C every, what, 2-3 hours??
How about if the matches go past the estimated 3 or so hrs??
Would they continue even if the players and fans have to sit & play through the sweltering temperature?
Or would they stop play, ask the players to hit the shower and ask the fans to bail out to experience another heat related temperature outside while they turn the A/C back on and wait another 2-3 hrs to cool the playing hall??..

One questions why they only sold the Gold Class tickets for the first few weeks and only provided Silver/Bronze class tickets later ...... maybe someone complained of the ticket prices.
