So how did we all do, then? Me first. I lost. A lot. I was grouped with either the overall winner or the runner up at the round-robin phase. This made it very difficult to get near even the runners-up qualification because I was always getting poor points totals in one of the games. Manfred Tripp did his annual sweep of the titles but I was particularly impressed with young Dean George who has recently made an appearance on the ranking lists. Watch him climb them quickly. Matt, did you play in Essex? UKP was it new county or old this season? New thread is a result of the growing size of our other thread on tournaments which is threatening to become eternal. I think that if we are going to continue to report our results in this forum, which I think we should, we might want to think up a more inventive way to do it.
Hi John Austin won the mens singles at the Herts restricted. Jim Teal and Brian Locke won the Mens doulbles and Rachael Howard won the girls singles (She is a Star of the future me thinks) Sorry you had a dissopointing restricted this year! As long as you get in the county team you hoped for , it won't matter to much.
Devon.....Alaister Jones MS, Corbys MD, in WS there were 3 entries! Betty Blair and 2 juniors, obviousley Blair won her 17th or so title in a row.
I lost badly too :-( Quarter finals of the singles and didn't get out of the group stages of the doubles or mixed, although I had last years winners in both events in my group. Only lost 17-15 17-14 in the doubles to last years winners which was a good game. We managed 10 in the LS which is very good for Northumberland! Only 10 pairs in the MD, 8 pairs in the LD and 11 pairs in the XD I think though. In the past we've managed at least 16 pairs in MD so that was a bit disappointing.
I hear what you are saying, dlp. Sussex had no womes singles competition this year and only had four pairs in the womens doubles ! Wendy Adams and Natasha Groves made short work of that draw. There are very few girls coming through. THe only one who is of any note is Heather Olver, but she was away over the restricted weekend.
Lost 2 singles, won 1, 1 loss went to 3. Lost 2 doubles, won 2. 1 loss went to 3. Wasn't scheduled to play doubles, but went in as a scratch pair. Think the ol' tournament temperament let me down, but not too dissapointed. Winner was Joel Gayle. Doubles Joel Gayle/Daniel Chipperfield. Both too young & too good. Too much to do now - just moved to York so don't expect me to be around much over the next week or so.
