At the SSF'13, I was at first, after the group stage redraw,a bit worried we might not get to see a LXR vs TTY match as I originally thought WSX has the ability to edge out TTY again in the semifinal. Now with the benefit of hindsight, I say there would be no loss as TTY was simply outclassed by LXR in the final. Perhaps a LXR vs WSX final might be a better match, more of a climax.

Objectively speaking, I consider WSX more skillful in rallying and stroke play as well as retrieving ability than Tai Tzu Ying whose superiority lies mainly in her attacking play, particularly in her smashes.

In that WSX vs TTY semifinal clash, WSX unexpectedly and shouldn't have lost that match when holding 4 matchpoints in the rubber which she unfortunately failed to convert and even lost the deuce after a spectacular, desperate saving shot by TTY- a cross court net return executed from a very low position in a dive - which probably shocked, dazed and rattled WSX to the extent that she lost the next three points in quick succession that cost her dearly.

It is deja vu when we recall the same situation occurred to WSX at the last East Asian Games WS Final where she lost to Han Li when 6 matchpoints up in the decider, couldn't convert, then lost the deuce and the match.

I hope WSX learns well and draw valuable lessons from such experience to keep herself focused, tighten her game and not let up or lose her bearings or relax too much at crucial moments. She has the talents and is a smart, thinking player. I've no doubt, as long as she continues to persevere which she seems to be doing, she will go from strength to strength.

Btw, I saw her on TV , the way she posed before serving, shuttle raised by one hand and racquet held high by the other, remained at that stance for a few seconds, let out a yell, and then serve - that scene is to me a joy to watch, beautiful and amusing as well. A great girl with a unique style of play; a delight to watch nowadays (though I still wish to see her improve on her offensive shots, specifically, the smash).

    hello uncle justin
Hello, azrenth boy, we are indeed overjoyed to see Shixian back to her best, in her all-conquering,winning ways again. She is now truly a force to be reckoned with and may she go on to scale greater heights henceforth.

Tactically, I'd still wish to see her improve on her smashes further and be more forceful, esp at crucial moments. WSX, JiaYou !

azrenth boy, your undying faith in and unwavering loyalty to her has finally begun to bear fruit. Just when one by one is beginning to forsake her, you continue to stand steadfast in your support of her. I salute you!

Yep, Wang Shixian must be very pleased, nay, it's her good fortune to have die-hard fans like you, azrenth boy.

Watch out for her performance in the new year , beginning next month with the KOR Open SS and the MAS Open PSS.

In the KOR SS , she is the top seed in the absence of her WR1 colleague LXR. But in her half of the draw, she is slated to first meet Tai TY in the QF, followed by Wang YH in the SF, before another possible showdown with Intanon R again who is likely to sail into the final unless waylaid along the way by the rising Spaniard Carolina Marin or her senior compatriot Porntip or the tricky KOR opponent Sung JH.

Wish Shixian a resounding start to the new year. Go for it. JiaYou !

In Round 9 of the CBSL on 28th Dec 2014, Wang Shixian playing for Jiangsu beat Intanon R playing for Qingdao, 2:0 (11-9,12-10) resulting in Jiangsu winning 3-2 against Qingdao in the group match.

Looks like Wang Shixian is becoming the nemesis of Intanon Ratchanok, for now it seems.

China is only allowed to field two players in Singles for the Olympics.

What are the chances you think that WSX can make in 2016?

Almost no chance, she isn't better than WYH or LXR.

And by 2016 i think Sun Yu has a good chance to be a contender as well.

I don't think WYH will be around for the next Olympics. Her body looks like it will not be able the injuries. So I think WSX will have a decent chance for representing China at the Olympics. But just like LXR, you never know with China. Another girl might suddenly come through the ranks.

The guessing game for Chinese WS starts early for this cycle.

I agree that WYH won't be around in Rio.

LXR is at this stage 50:50. Factors in her favour are:

    (A) she won OLY2012
    (B) she won National Games of China 2013
    (C) she is regarded by many as the best WS player at the moment.

    Factors against her:

    (1) she lost in WC2013 against a 18 year old.
    (2) she hasn't won anything big except OLY2012.
    (3) her knee injury is not improving.

I like Sun Yu, too. We will see.

As of now, WSX and WYH have to fight it out for the 2nd slot. If WSX continues to improve her game while WYH still occasionally shows inconsistency, the former's chances is reasonably good if not better than the latter's. Still I hope WYH has the determination and will to give herself another go at the Rio Olympics.

But I do agree with Cheung that one or other rising star from CHN may suddenly emerge to steal the thunder from these two, possible candidates being Liu Xin, Sun Yu, Yao Xue or even He Bingjiao, or,who knows, one of the 15- to 20-yr-old juniors/second-stringers now competing at the ongoing China International Challenge !

As for LXR, I daresay she will once again be a top contender come Rio'16. Her near-miss at the last WC which she attributed to her own fault will serve as a new impetus to propel her irresistibly forward all the way to the next Olympics, including the next WCs and majors en route.

WSX does not exudes the winning confidence like LD, XXF or ZN that LYB would want to bank on especially with only 2 tickets to RIO. LXR will be in RIO, the 2nd choice is open.

Oh, I'm pretty confident WYH will be in Rio. I mean, I don't know if she'll be selected for the team, but I'd wager that loss to LXR in London stung bad, and she's desperate to make amends and win the next Olympics. You can see it in the way she's taken care of LXR the last few times they've met - she had properly strategized against her, and those were wins with venom. And I don't think WYH is in any worse physical shape than, say, LXR. The only time WYH looked like she was going to keel over and pass out was in her match against Sindhu at the WC, and I'd be more careful of a player like Sindhu (rather than someone like LXR) in 2016 if I were WYH.
