Hi, I was thinking of playing at the YMCA. Either the North York or Scarborough location. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about them. How busy they are, level of play, cost of membership, how snooty they are. Thanks in advance. Oh and is a membership mandatory or is it a drop-in program for badminton?
Hey Reynar there is no drop in form just for badminton. I believe it costs 10 dollars for use of the facilities for one day. I currently attend the facility at North York. I mainly use the facilities for weight lifting purposes but the badminton isn't bad. However there are alot of beginners in the bunch. There are a few intermediate players and even less advanced players but it isn't too bad. If your a good player there really is no snobbyness however if it's your first time picking up your racquet don't expect to play very exciting games . Cost for monthly membership i believe is 34 dollars? give or take a couple dollars. I hope this helps. Cheers, Nick
I actually thought of the same thing and the "guest pass" for one day is $12 I wanted a membership but they need either a credit card number or a void cheque I just turned 17, so I dun really have either what I was wondering was if I bought a guest pass at north york YMCA played during morning when the badminton ends there could I use the same pass for the badminton at STC YMCA in the afternoon? else $12 for each location.. twice a week.. thats like.. $48 a week for 8 hours of badminton.. not including gas / ttc fare.. pretty pricy [Edit] Btw their drop ins schedules are provided in their website go to google.com and search up ymca canada sorry I can't remember the site
$10 for a "day pass" (adult) - $5 for a "day pass" (child). They ask for photo ID, possibly to confirm your age, they keep your ID til you leave (don't forget to get it like I did, lol) I believe thats standard for both NY and STC, I'll check out STC later on.. Last time I went for badminton (Christmas Day), there was nearly no one there.. Theres 2 gyms, each with 3 courts. There was so little people, they let one of the gyms be used for basketball instead. I haven't seen any pros there.. I'm a noob, so were my friends. We almost had 2 outta 3 courts to us the whole time. So its quite good if you don't want to wait shifts with your friends (if $10 isn't too much for you) and u can't use the pass in 2 different locations, because u don't even pay for a pass, u just pay to get in, u dun get no pass, no receipt, nothing.
YMCA i play at the scarborough Y sometimes, level there is alright, there are a lot of beginners, some novices, and i think only three good people. come on Friday nights, the entire gym is open.
Hey.. thats not bad then I used to think 19+ or something but since I can go s'all cool then thx reap
I went to the ym at stc on friday (jan 3rd) I thought there'd be 4 gyms open? I only found the gym 1 and 2 only 4 courts 15 min shifts and I got in with the day pass for $15! north york ymca is only $10 its got more than 4 courts the setted hours are longer the only thing that was good was we stayed at ymca (stc) longer than we should've til almost everyone left
u can just ask parents for void check. when do u go to north york ymca? i think sunday has the longest time, i think it's 1030-1230. u can check gta schedules on the ymca site. if u go at night on the weekdays there's a bunch of pretty good players, but i'm not sure about now since it's so cold
I only been to ny a couple of times during the holidays its the same length (time) as sundays normally I would go on sundays too if I could get some friends or I'm not bz
