Hmm wonder how many of you had gotten into trouble after being honest about something:)

I seem to always get flak after being honest, makes me wonder whether if I should continue to tell the truth...

You can be honest without giving away the whole shop - knowing to tell others how much is the key - if they thought wrong from that sliver of information, then you did not mislead them, they arrived at that conclusion themselves.

Still, if you scratched your dad's BMW - it's best to just apologise - can't hide it. :D

    If you can..

..it's best to be honest right away than continually lying but at the end the truth is exposed. So, which one is worst?? Which one do you think will reflect better to others??..;)

There are truth, the whole truth nothing but the truth.
There are interpretation of the above statement.

    Sometime the truth hurts.
So what you don't know won't hurt you.

    You want the truth?
    You can't handle the truth!

Sometimes, if a simple "yes" or "no" is the best answer... it is to your advantage not to give out any further information than necessary.

    Ex.

A: let's go out for dinner
    B: No... I am busy

    is way better than:

B: No... I have got another commitment with someone else.
A: so, someone else is more important than me?

Now, B is screwed because of the additional information given out.:p

Other than that, honesty is always the best policy.

Did you ever see that film City Slickers and its its subsequent sequal, City Slickers 2 starring Jack Palance and Daniel Stern? Essentially the film is about a group of city folk who spend the weekend herding cattle across the Mid-west USA. One of the main characters, 'Curly', played by Jack Palance tells Billy Crystal's character the meaning of life, having grown very found of each other. This "one thing" is the most important thing in the world. Billy Crystal's character believes this "one thing" is a personal quest, descovering what is important to oneself. In this case, the characters' family. At the very end of the sequal, which takes on a similar theme to the origianal, it transpires that the "one thing" ie the meaning of life is: honesty. I think there is some truth in that statement. Both films are some of my favourites - guilty pleasures.
