    "JAM", play on every SAT afternoon, normally we book 3 hrs courts, for the
    first hr we'll have 1 court, and for the next two hours we'll have 2 courts,
    we simplify that as 1+2+2

    Most of our members are mid level players (but we wouldn't called
    ourself a really outstanding players though, especially when compare with
    other famous club ) , our age is between 20-50.

    Our aim is to gather some good players to play and get some sweat, so I will
    classicify that we are not the aggressive type of club. We enjoy badminton game more than killing each other hehe.

    We DO NOT have a fixed charge and members fees, for our members, they pay
    for what the club spend, such as Shuttlecock and court booking.

    We recently launched a new account system to classify loyalty members and
    normal members, we call that "Prepaid system", a very similar concept as
    OCTOPUS card in Hong Kong. Our members will pay a sum of money in advance (i.e. $160), ¡Aand deduct after every game until the credit used up, then pay again.

    For normal members (not joining the Prepaid system), they have to pay cash
    everytime after game, and also the charge will be slightly different compare
    with Prepaid system members.

    For example, on 12th OCT, club charged $43, Prepaid system member's account
    will deduct $43 in exact, then for normal members, they will be charge for
    $45.

    Everytime we finish game, I will upload the club account's details to our
    MSN group web for my members to check out their credit balance.

    Run this by me again?

    You charged $45 HK for three hours play? For which of one of the three hours you only had 1 court?

    Is it just me or is that a lot? Here in Oz, the usual rate is about $6 for a casual member which gets you into a place with several courts (at least three, usually four), and feather shuttles. That works out to be about $26 HK.

    $43 HK dollars for regulars is a lot of money too. Given that membership of a club that plays 3-4 times a week shouldn't set you back more than about $300 AUSD (I pay about $200) in total for the year. Since I often used to play three times a week, that'd average about $2 AUSD a session, whereis in HK it'd cost me $10 AUSD?! Ack maybe I couldn't move to HK because I couldn't afford to play badminton :p

    PS I don't play nearly that much these days, but even at once a week it's still only 60% the cost per session.

    Hi Pecheur, I hope that you are not trying to challenge my calculation here.

    In Hong Kong, for 1 hr badminton count @ Indoor air-con sports center, which running by the gov, it cost $51 (off peak) and $66 (on Peak)

    Our club book 3hrs every SAT, but the arrangement are this,

    1st 14:00-15:00 => 1court
    2nd 15:00-16:00 => 2courts
    3rd 16:00-17:00 => 2courts

    that's why I call that 1+2+2, therefore in total I have to book 5hrs court, cause we play on SAT, 14:00-17:00 (on peak hrs), so $66*5 = $330 for court booking

    For shuttlecock, we use "Special Areoplane" (White package) some Asia players should have seen this. It cost me $85 for a doz, so $7 each. Normally we use at least 18 birds everytime.

    Now, understand how expensive to play badminton in HK now? hehe

    Ph I'm not questioning the calculation

    I just think it's a lot of money, eg on Saturday I play in a place from your calc would be:

    1300-1400 => 4 courts
    1400-1600 => 8 courts
    1600-1700 => 4 courts

    ie 4+8+8+4, therefore 24 hrs of court. Admittedly our hourly court charge is much lower.

    oh yeah, seems the badminton court @ where you live are very cheap, but what's the courts like? And how about other facility? In Hong Kong, our sports center are really nice compare with those sports center I went in the UK.

    Hey, how about we try to take some pic for the sports center we used to go, then post it to this group? SO other all the people from all other countries can take a look. It could be fun. :)

    Pecheur, you have to appreciate that HK real estate is a lot more than in Austrailia and shuttles are included in the price of admission. From the photo above, it looks like a clean, well lighted gym with AC.

    Actually, the price quoted by Jazz is quite OK for HK.

    That venue is an airconditioned hall. Almost all Government facilities are the same price with airconditioning.

    In Oz, I don't think halls have the additional cost of airconditioning. At least I didn't notice it in the couple of places I've played at.

    Heck, playing in Oz is cheap. I guess racquets are more expensive but if your playing costs are that low, it's not so bad.

    BTW, I hate playing in that hall. I find it really difficult as some courts have a noticable draught. Sometimes the floor is a bit slippery as well but that's the price one pays for a court that is not dedicated to badminton.

    i believe they supply the shuttle as well. at least most of the clubs i have been to in HK do that. so you should factor the cost of that into account.

    I might not have explained myself clearly, my costs INCLUDE feather shuttles :)

    I do like the idea of posting photos of where we play though.

    hehe, doesn't matter at all. ^_^

    May be you will understand why so expensive when you see the pic of the sports center in HK.

    Yeah, I will take some picture on this SAT for the center, I hope other people will do that too! hehe

    maybe its moderately priced - expensive because Hong Kong is a small little island where real estate is quite expensive.. i mean in Australia.. you got lots of land for development... Hong Kong is like... oh.. old house.. blow it up, and make a new building.. its just a lot of recycling

    When I went back to Hong Kong last time in 1993, our friends and I reserved the whole gym in Cheung Sha Wan with 4 courts for HK$25 /per hour. Price went up 10 times in 10 years. ($55 x 4 = $220).

    The gym we went to was maintained by the government. It had 4 courts (no-air) - HK$25 / hours - HK$6.25 / court / hour. Of course the courts shown this thread look much better.

    In sydney, I played three at different places.
    Two are organised by different groups and cost around $ 36 hk / hour.

    One is organised by a university club. costs $30 hk dollars /hour for casual members. (sponsored by university student union).

    3 hours each session. shuttles supplied.

    Jazz, if you don't mind, I 'll contact you by email when I drop by HK in July 2003.
