So i guess you can say jumping doesn't need technique right? Wrong, the higher you jump the steeper you'll be able to smash the birde to. What is your jumping technique? The reason i made this thread is cause, i was watching stuff about the human body. They said that humans can jump higher if they tape their toes together! They also performed test and it worked! Im going to open gym at my school tomorrow and try this out
"tape their toes together"? are you talking about the toe of one foot on top of the other one? can't visualize it. please elaborate more about this. during my volleyball training, my coach always asked us to jump on two feet at the same time, which will always result in better height. of course, right before you leave the ground, you should push yourself with your toes, not the heels.
i meant on each foot you tape your 5 toes together and on the other you would do the same. so you would have 5 toes on 1 foot taped together and on the other one too
ahh, in this case, that's what's been taught by my volleyball coach. it's also more or less like you use the toes' "grip" power to push yourself higher. good luck in your practice.
it actually puts your toes together and makes them move as 1 cuz when there apart they move by them selves so its unequal i think?
Plyometrics. I'd elaborate but its 5.12am and i can't think much, but it revolves around the idea of fast, explosive movements to train fast twitch fibres or something.. basically jumping in a spot as fast as you can and as high as you can with as little time spent on the ground possible is a form of plyometrics exercise and just as you would get stronger from lifting weights you'll be able to jump higher from training in this fashion. Your body learns to exert more force in less amount of time in short movements more efficiently which is why your jump increases. In the same way your speed can also can increase if you train in a relevant way.. this information might not be that accurate because again i'm tired and this is just from personal knowledge.
This sound interesting to tape toes.. Also I've been told that other than jump higher, its good also to practice the longer air time. I mean like hold the time on air longer. I can't remember which muscles to practice.. one of them calf muscle. Correct me if I'm wrong. Thank you.
Well that will help but, plyometrics and weight training your leg muscles aren't the same thing. Where weight training your leg muscles will increase maximum strength and endurance through hypertrophy, in the long run it will "contribute" to higher jump potential. Plyometrics on the other hand forces your to body to adapt more directly in terms of fast twitch fibres and contraction/extension speeds than weight lifting would do, because in which the way plyometrics stresses the body is much more relevant to jumping than weight lifting to get your leg muscles stronger. I guess another way to put it may be that, weight lifting will cause your muscles to become bigger and stronger in order to increase strength but plyometrics shortens the time between the contraction and extension of the leg muscles as you land and take off through the adaptation of fast twitch fibres, which effectively means MORE FORCE was produced. What you were thinking about was that increased strength means increased power, but power and strength are two very different things. Again this is just personal knowledge so don't take my opinion as absolute.
you can incorporate weight training with plyometrics. also, a bit of weight training is needed before an athlete starts plyos; you need strength to perform plyometrics properly
i see my coach gave us some foot weights to move faster on court any way today i tried out that method and it seemed to work cause then my smashes go to the back alley
From my Gymnastic training in my teens years: You need to train your toes to get them stronger, just like the ways you do fingers push-up...only with your toes-in UNITY: Flex them together as one unit, and flex them faster as you get better. I think taping your toes will limit your toe flex and it will hinder your jump. But jumping require everything to work together and timing just need to be right. Push off with the front base of your feet, and flex your toes in a timing manner so that it will set the lift-off:--That is only part of the jump mechanism: knee, quad. muscle, hand motion,...wow...so much going into a jump for a split second.....You need to see this in real life or slow capture the jump to get an idea how to do it right. And, don't forget to work on your BALANCE skill, yes, If you don't do it right, you will lose height and power if you jump off---center or leaning to much on one side...... Use a sprinter block--to train your Toe Reflex to make it faster and stronger. Then this will really help your jump. Watch how 100 meters running shoot out of the block.....I also did track and field in my your age till i torn everything in my knee in gymnastic. Good luck........remember to visualize yourself jumping higher and higher....it help too...
1 more important thing: Remember to lift your chest as you go UP.....this is how You do a standing back flip in gymnastic when i first learn....to lift myself higher off the ground.
check out my Younger brother doing some good JUMP. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkj56_1aCJE you tube search: victor lopez tempest to see more of HIM
Yeah, I am Mix Asian/Hispanic, but I look more Asian and played badminton. I term of fitness level, he is just amazing in acrobatic. If he played badminton, he easily do a front flip Smashed......LOL
