Which dates will you be there ?

I will be there the week of 17th Aug and will play with some local group.

Anyway, I don't think shuttle cheaper in HK.

Singapore has some pretty good prices for non yonex shuttles compare to other countries. So far, I think prices in Malaysia cheaper and they are also using same speed as Singapore (77 or 49). I found RSL No.1 for around S$20 per tube at Pertama Komplex ! Singapore is at least S$25 per tube.

I will be there from 14 to 16 August; had hoped that shuttles there would be cheaper as rackets there tend to be cheaper slightly than the ones in singapore (think it's cos they dont have GST); would be travelling light and have a lot of luggage space...hence thinking of stocking up on shuttles to check in/hand carry; btw have only used sosan besides AS 40, AS 50 and AS 10 and so far prefers AS 40...:D

RSL Classic is not close to AS40, especially the head, becomes soft after a game or so. A little disappoint about it. For the top line shuttlecock, RSL does not use quality head material as other brands. However, the flight is super.

If the head (or is it the cork, base or crown?) uses poor quality material, there is no way the flight can be good. Poor quality head will feel hard because of air resistance from too light a base caused by using lighter and harder PU material or even from too light natural cork, and/or it will veer off a straight line bcause of the uneven compression of the natural cork at the bottom of the base.

It's not a poor quality material for the head (cork). They don't use solid piece of softwood, but a composite ones. So it starts good, but just won't last long as other high end shuttlecocks. As far as I know, all RSL shuttlecocks have the same problem.

I don't think softwood is used as badminton bases/crowns. The very top quality shuttles use either all natural cork or 3-layer of cork/fiber/cork as theri bases or crowns, which have very high resilience and strength/durability. All lower end feathers shuttles do not use such high quality bases because of their high cost.

That picture of the Yonex AS-50, showing a 2-layer composite top/cork bottom base, is something new because Yonex always uses 100 % natural cork as their base for their top end goose feather shuttlecocks. Are you sure it is a Yonex AS-50 base? Because all the AS-50 shuttlecocks I use for testing/designing comparable shuttlecocks are all natural cork base. If so then this is quite a change from a top grade base to a second tier base.
The very top goose feather shuttlecocks use either all natural cork or a 3-layer cork top/composite middle/cork bottom. The second tier high quality shuttlecocks, usually used on grade A+ duck feathers or grade A or A- goose feathers, use a 2-layer base like the one shown in the picture purportedly to be a Yonex AS-50 base.
