^^Oh, that Christian Yahya..^^
..well, he is not Rudy Hartono's grandson nor has any relation to him. Actually he was in L.A., last yr, and played at a local tournament. I'm not sure if he had gone back to S'pore for good or not, but he told me he was pretty much "S'pore-sick" as he grew up in S'pore but came to the U.S. (with his younger bro who also plays) to join his parents. Still a young kid (under 20 y.o.), if i recall, but i watched him and he's quite good in comparison to the local kids his age. I could tell from his strokes and techniques that he had played & trained extensively.
Here are some of his pics from that tourney (post #2 & 4). And he actually signed up to be a member of BC and made his 1st post (post #12)

Yes I saw Chris' pics and recognize Christian.
And when I took another look at the scores:
Christian Yahya Christianto [5/8] lost to Agrippina Primarahmanto Putera [5/8] 12-21 21-9 20-22
And indeed Agrippina is a good player as Rudy mentioned and how can I miss him during the recent Li Ning tourney?
Time really flies. That was 3 years ago - that Cheers tournament.

First Djarum, then Mutiara and Suryanaga, now Jaya Raya are actively sending their young players abroad...
Now only Tangkas and SGS are still dormant in increasing their financial commitments to developing young Indonesian talents...
These 6 clubs are the historical pillars of INA badminton... If all 6 are competing teeth to teeth with each other, INA badminton quality will increase to a higher level than today...

Shuttler Alcala shines in Singapore tourney
Manila Bulletin (http://www.mb.com.ph)
December 25, 2009, 4:33pm
Mark Alcala romped away with the first Li-Ning Youth International badminton crown, besting his more fancied rivals, including Indonesia’s Ali Auliansyah, 21-19, 21-16, in the finals of the 11-under boys’ division in Singapore recently.
Dishing out awesome form, Alcala upended top contender Joverian Mahesa, also of Indonesia, in three sets in the round of 16 then cruised to victories over local bets Chen Rhui Sheng and Ong Zi Jian to arrange a title showdown with Auliansyah.
“He played a superb game and with confidence. He knew he can beat this kids,” said team manager and coach Conrado Co, also the man at the helm of the Philippine Badminton Association youth development program under president and former First Lady Amelita “Ming” Ramos.
Roberto Pineda and Ethan Malelang also teamed to earn a bronze medal in the 15-under boys’ doubles of the event, which drew participants from Chinese-Taipei, Hongkong China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.
Alcala and partner Keeyan Gabuelo also reached the quarterfinal round of the 13-under boys doubles while Ming Ramos Youth Cup champion Malvinne Alcala also fell short of her bid in the 15-under girls singles, reaching the quarters phase.
Others who made it to the Last 8 were Gelita Castilo, another Ramos Youth Cup winner, in the 17-under girls’ singles, the Alcala-Castilo tandem in the 17-under girls doubles and the Paul Vivas and Peter Magnaye pair in the 19-under boys doubles.
With one victory and a bronze medal finish in the event, Team Philippines, which gained a top 10 ranking in the world juniors in Malaysia early in the year, showed it can be at par with the world’s best, underscoring the steady rise of junior badminton in the country.
(Congrats to the Philippines team, especially the Alcala siblings.

Only recently when she won the Cheers Age Group WS title that I got to know more about LXY from the posts of other BC members:
http://www.badmintonforum.com/vb/sho...t=73848&page=6
LXY came from China a few years ago. She may be studying here but she is not a member of our National Team.
I'm sure the SBA would love to have a foreign talent like LXY to be trained as a national player since she is still relatively young and has got used to our local condidtions, but there are other considerations to take into account which must be agreeable to LXY's parents and the SBA.
Maybe other senior BC members here would be able to provide more details.

Shuttler Thng Ting Ting beats Thai top seed to win U-19 Singles final
http://redsports.sg/2009/12/28/thng-...ing-badminton/
Yio Chu Kang Stadium, Sunday, December 20, 2009 – Singapore shuttler Thng Ting Ting swept aside top seed, Nittayaporn Nipatsant, from Thailand with a 2-0 (21-12, 21-19) victory in the Li-Ning Singapore Youth International badminton Under-19 Girls Singles final.
Ting Ting took the first set easily but admitted that the second set “was a struggle”. Her Thai opponent rallied in the second set, coming back from 15-9 to reduce the lead to just one point at 19-18. Nonetheless, Ting Ting finished off her opponent 21-12, 21-19 in 35 minutes.
“I am very happy to win and my opponent’s performance wasn’t fantastic today,” Ting Ting said. “My strategy was to keep the shuttle in at the start.”

I was quite surprised to see a TV crew during the finals. Wonder if the finals would be shown on cable tv.
