I am looking to buy some shoes for badminton, but also to use for everyday use. I do not want badminton specific shoes, so what is the next best thing? How are indoor soccer shoes, or basketball shoes for badminton?
Yes, indoor soccer shoes do work for badminton. I used them before and it was nice. Volleyball shoes can work well too.
i use the yonex sht-304r to play badminton. it's really great. it's a shoe for tennis by the way, and there are some other tennis shoes too that are great for everyday use. my adidas barricade V is awesome for everything, except badminton, it's heavier than your average shoes but no issue for me because my legs is used to the weight. stability is unbelievably good. i'm planning to get the adidas tirand 3 soon for my daily winter shoe. got the looks of a barricadde V and lighter in weight and much much cheaper.
Puma sneakers not only look badass, but the soles work real well for indoor badminton. used to use those myself before i got myself a pair of SHB's...
I'm considering buying basketball And1 shoes to play badminton. Well because basketball players do what badminton players do as well: Changing angle, jump, sprint, skip...etc. Anyone here use basketball shoes to play badminton can share some experience and what shoes you use?

I don't think basketball shoes are very good. I mean in theory it makes sense, the jumping, the movement, but see I play basketball and there are subtle differences that make it impractical. For one, the heal is a lot higher to protect you, in badminton, it will get in the way of your movement. Another difference is the amount of protection for your heal. Good basketball shoes have a lower profile to give you more protection while badminton shoes have more padding to protect you from falling. Another problem with basketball shoes are they're design is heavier than badminton shoes. Although you personally are use to the weight, you'll be slower compared if you have shoes that are built for badminton. (personally I play in walking shoes ^^ Good luck finding shoes!!!
Basketball shoes are fine but they are not specifically designed for badminton's quick direction changing lateral side to side movements. The advantage of basketball shoes are there are more cushioning both forefoot and heel. Nowadays, most basketball shoes are also made for indoors. However, the disadvantage are a lot. First, the cushioning sits higher on the ground where badminton shoes are lower for better court feel. Second, Most basketball shoes are heavier and higher cut. Some are light and low cut like Nike Kobe IV just like Shuttlesworth is using. Actually, I think Kobe IV would make a decent badminton shoes but still cannot match real badminton shoes like Yonex SHB's, Lining, Victors, etc. Tennis shoes are fine if you can get used to the heavier weight. Their sole would be less ideal and inferior to badminton indoor gum shoes. Just my 2 cents.
To be honest with you, and i'm actually surprised no one else has stated this yet, I would not use my badminton shoes for anything but indoor use. Any indoor court shoe or soccer shoe has a gum sole which picks up dust and dirt very well and ruins the traction. My suggestion is that you get 2 separate pairs of shoes.
Use Nike Frees they're great for everything, but they wear out pretty fast if you use them more than 3hrs a day... you should invest in another pair of shoes though cuz most places don't let you play with outdoor shoes. Good Luck in finding your liking
I would avoid Nike Frees as you can get painful plantar faciitis. Your feet is not supposed to bend on the midfoot area. That's why the middle part of your shoes must be rigid so that when you move, your weight would not bend your midfoot.
I would highly recommend looking at a general court shoe, personally a big favorite of the Asics Gel Blast 2. A few threads exists on this product in the forum. What type of a person are you? big, small? Are you a fast player, a power player? What type of feet do you have? Those are questions you should ask yourself and then find the shoe that fits. 2 comments: 1. u r fooling yourself if u plan to save money by buying an all purpose shoes for badminton(unless u play at D level or lower) 2. a real badminton gym facility will not let u in the courts with non-indoor court/badminton shoes.
