Before i continue i must say im what you call a cheap skate i bought my machine of my coach he had it for 31 years and ive had it one its a drop weight. Anyways It has these crazy fixed clamp things which rest on poles around the frame. it did have 1 flying clamp but i didnt use it cus it wouldnt fit with the poles around the frame to string and empty racket from bare frame took me 1hr 15mins it could not be done faster due to the crazy clamp things Anyways whilst browsing ebay i got a bargain 1 badminton flying clamp 1 squash/tennis flying clamp 6 dunlop fort tennis balls 2 sets of squash string 2 over grips ALL FOR £10.45 i only wanted the clamps really anyways i had strung 2 rackets using both flying clamps and thought it felt much faster so today im timed myself and .. I did it in 45 MINUTES thats crazy it cut 30 minutes off by using flying clamps im well happy with my purchase
Because the weight butts up against the frame it allows higher tensions than standard two point drop weight machines the highest ive gone is 28lbs and that was fine i have no need to go higher i will try eventually
why unsafe? ....... Ive never broken a racket on it The string gripper is a rubber ring around a stainless steel hub and the bit that the string wedges around is a round head bolt The rubber strip is a little aged im currently trying to find a new lump of rubber to make a new piece The 2 point support is actually a much greater area than a new 2 point support
i think it should be kept here http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35198&highlight=antique
Hahaha yeh only 14 years older hey it shouldnt be there atleast mines clean I would upgrade but no point it does the job easily i have no need to string higher than 28lbs anyways
GrandMaster Noppy, Please take sideway photos of the frame and the machine during a string job. Thanks! SMP
Photos as requested pete racket being strung is a Carlton boron something or other @ 19x21lbs for a lady
i know its old but i dont see why they dont use the sliding arm feature any more, it seems much nicer to the frame rather than levering from a fixed point, its probably due to more moving parts and expenses
