my friend's Wilson Titanium racquet warped (the head) the other day (the same way a bicycle wheel gets warped after a collision). There's no apparent crack or chip on the head. Has anyone else heard of anything similar happening to a wilson or any other brand of racquet? I never realized that it's possible for a titanium racquet to warp.
Did you friend inadvertently put the racquet into the oven? Or sat on it? If it has enough metal in the racquet it could bend like that (like the aluminum racquets). Ben
he never left it in his car or anywhere it could have experienced thermal stress. it's only 3 and a half months old. And I'm sure that it's a real wilson (not pirated or copy) because he bought it from an official Wilson store. it has never been re-strung and still has the original string from Wilson.
This happened to a friend before. He just somehow dropped his racket on floor, and found that the racket kinda wrapped. There's a little "curve" near his T joint. Kinda very strange, I think.
Hmm, warped racquet without dropping or stringing stress...that happened to some of my old Wilson tennis racquets but this is the first time I've heard of it happening to badminton racquets. hmmm, maybe it's the brand Wilson.
Is this a sudden occurence? Did your friend actually when exactly the racquet is wrap out of shape? Maybe your friend can bend it back in shape.
it happened last monday oct 21. He couldn't understand why he couldn't control the direction of the shuttle while he was playing. After awhile he noticed that the head of his racquet was warped. The only reason he could think of was that he hit the back of his leg (calf area) out of frustration. Is that enough to warp a titanium racquet?
well i warped my Prince one really badly 2 years ago.. its way out of shape and bent.. keep in mind i was a dumb kid.. i left the cover on and started swinging it in the wind.. and its canada and canada is bound to be windy.. so after like 10 swings, it was freaking bent.. i doubt thats your case though.. you're in manila.
That's normal for a titanium racquet. Just not normal after read the reason. I think it's just a matter of brand. Ur friend should write a complaint letter to the manufacturer. Maybe they could fix it or replace it for a new one?
warped wilson racket Mike, your friend is not alone. I myself started out with a Wilson titanium racket, so did another friend, and we both noticed a similar defect (warping). Out of curiosity, I checked out some Wilson rackets in some shops and I noticed that some (not all) have some defects like mis-aligned racket heads or warped heads. Maybe there is poor quality control.
Re: warped wilson racket Some player have a great feel when they hold Wilson's but not so many of the racquet are good. You know the differences when u hold the wilson's series and how many person use it.
I have a poor experience. I bought a Carton Aerogear 05 from Rose in 1993. New Racket strung with TOA string at 22lbs. Only one hit with the suttlecork, the first normal hit, the racket's head wraped. No scratch and crack before the first play. I go back to Rose, but the owner said I must hit other hard object and refused to refund or replace. After this happening, I never buy anything from Rose again. Anyway, it is sometimes no reason for racket break........
even with yonex i bought a yonex ti swing power ss and only 10 days later the head warped! No collisions, no bad treatment, it just warped. I sent it back to the dealer who sent it to yonex and three weeks later the dealer said it was the manufactures fault so he gave me in-store credit for anything i wanted. I got the mp-77 which is by far the best mp i have ever used. sorry to hear about your wilson, but it evens happens to so called "high quality" racquets such as yonex.
The old wilson rackets are like toys, but the new hyper carbon looks very pro. Is there any hyper carbon user with high tension?? Any comment?? I also remember that my friend have another Boron 2 IN wrapped in the case without hitting or high temperture...... No crack and scratch before wrap, he discovered it wrapped when selling the racket to me.
