How is it that I see a lot of questions about what string and tension is good for racquet x. Doesn't that depend on the player's strength and style of play? Unless they're talking about what tensions not to exceed because the racquet might break.

you are very correct. it depends on each person's preference, style, strength, techniques, etc, etc,. this also applies to racket selection as well.

all these discussions should only be used as a approximate guidelines. and shouldn't be considered a strict rules.

There's no general rule apply to everyone for racket tension.

The one fits for urself is ur best choice.

Generally, lower tension = more power, higher tension = more control. But this really depends on ppl's own preference.

Another general rule is lower tension for beginners and higher tension for advance players.

And according to the info on the Ashaway website about strings, the
gauge you choose will influence the feel at a particular tension too e.g.
0.68 strings at 22lbs could feel pretty close to 0.70 strings at 25 lbs,
also depending on the material used to make the string. Bear in mind
also that different manufacturers may use slightly different ways of
    measuring string thickness.

what do you mean different ways of measuring string thickness? how many ways are there?

At least two... unstretched and at a given tension. Also, I'm not sure if there'll
be a difference to when a string is fresh off the production line compared to
after all the braids and temperature have 'settled'.

oh i see, hmmm, interesting. So is it true that thinner strings need higher tension for better performance?

Well the Ashaway page appears to suggest otherwise i.e. that thicker strings
need higher tension for performance. My (limited) experience so far agrees
with this but there may be people who found differently. Perhaps racquet
construction also plays a part here. Anyone else care to comment?
