I got my strings done a while back at 24 (ex Malay player). Thought this was high but not too high. I moved and I had another racket strung by another stringer (ex England player) at 24 and it turned out well below my other 24 strung rackets which have come down by 2 or 3lbs. Ex England player reckons I'm stringing at 27 and this is what he used to use in tournaments. How odd, it seems that not only do I like really high tensions now, that I've also adapted to it really fast. I've found my power and control have gone up.
same experience here. Used to use 24, one guy said try higher. Bad move. Now I'm stuck liking the higher tensions but have the problems associated: 1)potential decreased lifetime of racquet from a poor stringing job 2)decreased lifetime of strings
I string with BG65 so number 2 doesn't apply. Odd how so many of these former pro's are reccomending that to me. Cheap job & lasts. Wondering when one of my rackets is going to go though.
I just strung my MP90 JP @ 26x27 lbs today using BG88 Ti. It sounds roughly the same as my Iso TiSP SX that's strung with BG66 at 25lbs. I suppose it's because BG88Ti is thicker (0.69mm), therefore I've to string it at a higher tension to get the same tightness as the BG66 (0.66mm) @ 25lbs.
I just wonder how many of the present pros are still using BG65. Even with bG65, high tensions will decrease the lifespan....... Tend to agree with Modious about the guage affecting the feel of strings at different tensions.
