I think there's traffic jam at the junction, lunch hour crowd with slight rain.

The shuttle car/van/bus probably got stuck in the traffic.

If I approached him in the streets, he might thought I am going to rob him of his Forza racquets.

Will re-schedule that, i guess. Time is on my side.

And, wait, are they really going to held that in Gong BAdak's indoor stadium?
It's located next to the collapsed Sultan Mizan Stadium!
Or, there's another arena near both stadiums, also being used during SUKMA.
For the previous National Grand Prix and other Badminton Tournaments, it was held in another Stadium.

Ignore the first pic, it was taken back in 2008 and the main stadium is not as fine as before. haha.

Last night when the World No.1 was playing, looks like there were more officials than spectators.

You are joking, right? I mean, where is this huge reservoir of badminton fans if not in Malaysia? And what are those TV stations around the world that jumped in and bought rights within the three weeks since the tournament dates were finally announced? Badminton is already notorious for its lack of television coverage. The one nation that consistently shows badminton on TV, now has only two reasons (Bao and Xu/Guo) to cover it.

Of course, your rationale could have applied to, say, the Athens Olympics, where organizers knew that even if no one in Greece was interested, there would still be demand for TV coverage elsewhere.

    (taken from BWF website):
    "Television Broadcast
o The Yonex Sunrise BWF Super Series Masters Finals will be televised each day (afternoon session) throughout the event to a Worldwide audience."

    also here:

"The BWF introduced the Super Series format to showcase badminton at a higher level of competitiveness, to increase television coverage for the sport and to increase the star quality and popularity of the top players in the world through a wider television audience."

I do love being proven wrong about things like this. Thanks, ctjcad. That said, the second quote was written in 2007, before the SS started and hence falls under the "If you build it, they will come" category.

But your first quote explains a very welcome, present reality and it is great to see that, for example, two Chinese stations are broadcasting from day 1, even though there are only two Chinese competitors. See HERE.

Now if only we could get the same decisions to be made by TV stations in countries with a) high numbers of BC members; or b) high numbers of SSMF competitors.

    - Yes, "build it, they will come". Btw, has the quote changed since 2007??..
    - Yes, they are indeed broadcasting all of the matches. Thus the point that BWF's goal in this particular SSMF is coming to realization, despite having an empty stadium in the background.
    - Heard about WoB.tv??..aren't they broadcasting the matches, through livestream, to many parts of the world?

Well, I'd be both pleased and surprised, once again, since they usually wait until Sunday even when some TV stations start coverage earlier. But in general, wob.tv is a sore spot for me. I watched their coverage happily at one time but then they stopped broadcasting SS live in Korea altogether because their contract with SBS precludes it. If SBS broadcast anything live, that would be fantastic, but what they really do is buy the rights, keep wob.tv from showing it in Korea with English language commentary, and then they wait to see if any Koreans reached the semi-finals and if they do, then they sometimes show the tournament 2 weeks later (or 3, as in the case of this week's taped HKO broadcasts) but if no Koreans do well, SBS seems to just swallow the loss(unless they were buying badminton coverage futures or something). Either way, we are never allowed to watch live coverage and we never get coverage with English-language commentary(nor should we, but it would be nice to have the choice, i.e. if we could access live footage online anyway).

    Default Candid Camera shot

Most photos of non-match stuff I took along the way.

(didn't take match photos for lack of a professional camera)

The Friday evening crowd was much better than Thursday and Wednessday.

    1. Gade vs Boonsak in the best match of the day. Both are still trying to qualify.

    2. 'Crazy'/fanatic indonesian fan doning red and white, heckling with the Malaysian crowd.

    3. Fanatic donning Indonesia flag as Cape supporting Vita Marissa/Gunawan Vs Clark/Kellogg in XD match.

    4. KKK wearing a cap awaiting for transport, schoolgirls approaching him for autographs.

    5. Boonsak's sister on the way out vs Juliene Schenk.

Lee Yong Dae/Jung Jae Sung vs Boe/Morgensen match was a sham.

Both are playing half-heartedly as both already qualify.

I never saw so many crosscourt net shots, baseline drops and plenty of backhand clear in a professional men's doubles games.

Where is the boom boom pow?

The winners from Malaysia got their 2008 winnings. Typing error, I think it should be USD instead of RM.
