Chun Seang aTuesday, ppeals to return under Misbun’s tutelage
    Tuesday, 13 October 2009
Shuttler Tan Chun Seang has made a request in his appeal for reinstatement in the national back-up squad.
He wants to train under coach Misbun Sidek and not Hendrawan.
The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) general manager, Kenny Goh, confirmed yesterday that the 23-year-old submitted a letter of appeal last Friday.
Last month, the BAM slapped a two-year international ban on Chun Seang after he walked out of the team, citing family problems.
Chun Seang also said that he had difficulties living on the RM1,300 monthly allowance and had hoped to draw a better income by being an independent player.
It was the first time that the BAM had barred a player from international tournaments to safeguard their own programmes.
Kenny added that they would bring up Chun Seang’s request to the coaching and training committee for a decision.
“The appeal letter came through the Kedah BA. He said that he had sorted out his family problems and wanted to get back into the national team,” he said.
“He also said that he wanted to train under Misbun again because that would give him the chance to spar with (Lee) Chong Wei on a regular basis.
“He felt that he would remain stagnant if he continued to spar with the back-up shuttlers.”
Chun Seang had trained under Indonesian Hendrawan since July together with Vietnam Open runner-up Chong Wei Feng, Mohd Arif Abdul Latif and Liew Daren and two seniors, Mohd Hafiz Hashim and Kuan Beng Hong.
But the Kedahan quit the team just days after Hendrawan dropped him from the squad for the just concluded Vietnam Open.
