Anyone here work from home? My company introduced a home based concept in June this year and I took this option as I hated driving to KL for work every day. Plus, we were given a one time allowance of RM3k+ to purchase furnitures to equip our home office. As such, I used the RM3k+ and got me a nice 1.5hp aircon, phone with speaker and a nice desk/chair. All in all, great for my new apartment. So, whats the +s and -s of working from home? The +s are: - you dont have to get up early - dont need to be in work clothes. I am in my shorts now. - no office politics or being around with colleagues you cannot stand - freedom (but you need to have some self disciplined) - get to watch tv/listen to the radio and work at the same time - savings on fuels & time sitting in your car - my company also provide a RM350 allowance to cover phone, internet & electricity bills - can take cat naps after lunch The -s are: - since I am home now, I dont get to see one of my hot looking colleague on a daily basis - lunch with colleagues with lots of babes to see I guess thats about it for me. More +s than -s What can I say ... this home based thingy is a great idea. Ok I gotta go and take a shower as I got a meeting with a client in Damansara later on.
If the pay & benefits is ok, then of course it's better. No way my company would allocate RM3,000 to buy furniture,etc LOL. My boss had to buy his own printer(no reimbursement) for the branch office. My friend from another company uses his own PC, internet, phone -> allowance = RM150/mth to cover all that + picking up & sending courier packages from his team. The rest of us in the same field of work also similar. Then if there's less "work", means less $$$$, irregular.
There's a big difference when one works for say a local company operating from a shophouse in Puchong and a MNC. I consider myself lucky to work in the latter. You just cannot compare the perks and benefits. For example, most local companies are on 5.5 days work week, while MNCs are on 5 days. There are also flexi hours for those who work from the office as well. I am thankful.
Done that from 1999-2004 (love it) From 2004 to now, half in office, half at home. Office just 15 minutes drive from home without jam. I have kids so sometime I can't concentrate at all. If I have dateline I will work from 1am-4am. That is the best time to work. The +s are I save on petrol and less clothes to wash. You can eat and enjoy more home cook food and argue (quality discussion) with wife (she is full-time housewife) and I get to spend more time with kids. I am in IT business so work at home just suit me.
LOL, 5 days. Forgot to mention, stimes in terms of working from home/freelance, no such thing as work day or day off. Work can be 7 days a week, on public holidays (no such thing as triple or double pay or replacement leave), no specified working hours. My counterparts & myself work weekends & public holidays, doing the paperwork can run up to 2 or 3 am (can watch baddy livescore). It's not whether it's International company (ours are) or local company but the line of work & what it involves.
Been working from home since Jan. last year... though I already get used to waking up late and working late, even till the next morning comes, I don't feel this working environment suits me... I become very unorganized, losing my discipline really really fast... kekeke... and being single with little nieces and nephew close by, I earn a non-paid part time job by becoming a nanny as well... I'm not complaining spending my time with them but I really wish to go back to my office, working with my colleagues, chatting, gossiping etc... right now my room has become so unbelievable uncomfortable to work in, so I go out to wi-fi cafes to work and 'cuci mata' ^^... my other colleagues here who have been joining me in working from home, may not share what I feel... If I'm married, then I may like this type of working hour... but now at present time... and being me, flexible working hour like this is just a no-no... if got paid for the extra hours you work, then maybe I'll re-consider... but with no other benefit to enjoy, I look forward to going back to the office.... However, so long as I'm still in this type of working hour, I'll enjoy every bit of it and that includes watching vids, cooking lunch, wakes up late, doing part time jobs for the sake of escaping dying out of boredom etc...^^ for now, work at home is an ok for me ^^
as for someone with a kind heart like me ^^', to ask for MC seems like lying to the bosses...and I ended up working though I was sick...T_____T and I still got many days of leave unused.. last year alone I got a balance of 10 days and cos of it I got a reminder asking me to utilize my leave and not c/fwd to many days... as if I can do anything about it.... disadvantage: taking day off seems inappropriate ^^
When it comes to home based, I always take the position of win win with my company. You cant measure or count everything to the exact sen. Give and take la, no need to be calculative. As in anything in life, there are pros and cons ... yes, the hours may be longer or you may have to work on weekends/holidays but on the other side of the coin, we get flexiblity and things like no traffic jams, getting up early etc etc. My work requires me to travel a little. So, I kinda enjoy this mobile arrangement. For like today, I be home the whole day while tomorrow I got to fly to Penang to do a site inspection. With everything online these days, all you need is book Firefly online and show up tomorrow morning at the airport. hmmm ... after this early morning heartache watching Liverpool ... I may take a nap around 3pm later

Well i'm a freelancer, so i work at home...not always though, sometimes projects need me to go even outside the town and go to some offices also. I dont really like routines so i chose working at home , but i had some hard time at first because the hardest thing is not the deadline but basically how u control yourself for...starting to work And i got the same -s as Pemuda , well add 1 for it's hard to start to work, since no one here to supervised you and that makes me sloppy enough hehe
Errrr, my line of work, we all work sick or no sick, rain or blistering sun, accident or no accident, the deadline must be met. And no such thing as MC or balance of leave thingy. No such thing as claim doctor's expenses, all own expenses. And of course all hell will break loose even if slightly behind in deadline. No such thing also as claim traveling if customer last minute cancel appointment or deal not successful,my travelling is always more than the amount allocated. That's why very few end up in our line, many thought we earn many2 thousands, until they try it. And no such thing as nicely sitting down in Starbucks doing paperwork, wakaka

Workplace is also a social place as well. There is that feeling of working in a team. I changed from a workplace to more working from home a couple of years ago. I found it very difficult at first - takes quite a while to get used to that.
I am Self Employed and used to operate from home initially to save cost. You need real discipline to operate a SOHO. It's a fine line between work and "non-work".
I'm in the process of starting to work from home. There's a ton of people that do it and there are some legitimate "Work from home" sites online, though the scams outweigh the real thing.
