Canon G's G10 and G11
Was toying of an idea in getting a Compact Camera which has semi DLSR performance.
Im currently looking at G10 or G11. Im sure there is other brands as well like Lumix or Leica ( too expensive ), Ricoh, Nikon ( Not switching ).
Any recommendations? Or anyone of you have used these cameras? Reviews for them?

panasonic lx3 is the same price as canon g11 (us$500) and has a fast f/2.0-2.8 lens but only 24-60mm range compared to g11's 28-140mm. i've got a panasonic zs3/tz7 which is us$150 cheaper than both of those cameras but has a slow 25-300mm lens. it can't compare with my d700 but it's still useful as a travel camera.
specs and user reviews for g11, lx3 and zs3/tz7.

I have Lx3 and Tz5 for my travel companion. Lx3 is mainly for indoor and scenery shots and Tz5 for video captures :-) I avoid travel with my bulky DSLR and my video cam. these days.

G11 has a very promising sensor. with Canon backpedalling on the MP race, they finally see the light and release a lower MP camera than the G10. the result from demo we see so far is cleaner high ISO photos.
i have used the G10 and the feel and controls are very nice.
if i ever get a new camera in the near future, it might be the G11.

I never tried G10 or G11 but I have been using G9 for my everyday photo. While you cant compare the performance to SLR but I think the control help alot especially the round dial.
I would suggest G11, even on G9 at high iso, the photo is very noisy (I guess i'm used to SLR...).

luminous landscape has a review of g11 vs g10 and panasonic gf1 here. looks like g11's lower mp count helps with high iso but its high iso is still pretty poor so there's not much of a real benefit over g10.

my development was from D80 - G10 - 1000d. I gave up the G10 because it simply wasn't fast enough for my needs i.e taking people in low/mixed lighting.
Got the G10 thinking my fiancee could use it as well but realised for its price, might as well go with a beginner DSLR which my fiancee wouldn't be overwhelmed using. the 1000d ticked all the right boxes for me, cheap(ish), light, good high ISO and image quality, live view.

Well yes it is bulky compare to the PnS compacts But the quality of the photos produced is great. I would say this is a Semi DSlr. And also used by many photojournalist as their backup. Handy and light.
