Just curious to see your opinions on Jan, and also wondering whether you guys think he can be another Peter Gade. Does he have the potential to be on of the top players in the world? Or is he just an attempt by Denmark to continue a stream of world class players?
well, i would say that jan o jorgensen is d nex peter gade by judging d way he play. he can vie againts d top world class players if his techniques n power r much higher!
Personally I think that potentially he could be better, he moved so smoothly on court and every shot seems to be sewn into the next. He effortlessly plays angled shots but he plays them so much better than Joachim who seems to be out manouvered by his own shots. Still, I think that like other Euro players, he will have trouble with the injection of pace that these Asian players use to effect, and ultimately, I think that's what puts a player in the top 10.
For sure he will be a challenger for the european title (when PG retire !! ) against Joachim, Zwibler, etc. I don't really like his style but it might be a good way to play since he can beat Pg. Now he has to prove his potential, and the only way is to beat some very good asians players.
The only thing I'd say is, the exceptionals (LD & LCW etc) will be retiring or slowing down in a couple of years, just as Jan will be maturing. The only real threat I see then will be Chen Long and Simon Santoso, who both have massive potential imo.
He just has to improve his play against asians if he wants to have a career like PG's, being no1 during months.
He could.. ..he just needs to win one of the major tourneys soon and stay relatively consistent from here on out..PG won the AE & European Championships, as well as a few other international tourneys, when he was 22 y.o. Denmark should have him, Mikkelsen and Persson to rely on in the next few yrs. Gade should be retiring pretty soon, if i recall him mentioning abt that recently.
Er... I don't think Persson is that dependable... Jan (and Perhaps Marc) should be sent to GP and GP Gold tourneys too. Their chances are way way bigger there.
^^imo..^^ ..they're all @ the same level & the only ones in the same age group (JOJ being the youngest)..Joachim may not be consistent, but if he were to play vs. Mikkelsen and/or Jorgensen, i could see a 50-50 result.. Also, many players are still unfamiliar w/Jorgensen's & Mikkelsen's style of play, thus we've seen a few upsets here & there by JOJ and PM..
Just watched the Denmark Open Semis with Jan taking on Simon Santoso, and to me it was very disappointing to see that not only did Simon Santoso win, but he won by a fairly large amount in each game. First thing I noticed, after even the first 6 rallies, is that Jan really is afraid of playing net shots. It seems absurd I know because his netplay is actually coming along very nicely, but if you watch, he just lifts again, and again, and again. Which is what allowed Simon Santoso to get on top of him time after time. Jan was getting frustrated with himself only half way through the first game and carried it through with him almost all the way through the second, you would expect that he'll grow out of this in time though. Simon Santoso played well but wasn't pushed to 100% in my opinion.
Agree. Jan Jorgensen seems very immature as a player. He didn't control his temper at all and kept giving Simon easy points. Furthermore, physically he seems to be between Jonassen and Gade. As a consequence, he is not as powerful as KJ and not as agile as PG. He needs time to build up his own style.
21-6 in the first game going to Jan, Chong Wei perhaps a little overconfident going into that match do you think?
Superb player... Can see he is definitely awesome the way he was playing Gade at HKO. Very unlucky he lost that game when he kinda twist his foot.
