Hi, please teach me how to pre-stretch a (any) string on an electronic, constant pull machine. Thanx.
On my wise tension head it is pretty easy, you just hit the pre-stretch button and select the amount of pre-stretch (ie 10%). This means that if you were pulling 20 lbs on a string it will first over pull to 22 lbs and then lets the tension drop to 20 lbs. The tensioner should then kick in and hold the string at 20 lbs (constant pull).
Read the instructions, then ask again? Crappy instructions if they don't tell you. What machine do you have?
I got a Tecnifibre TF6000. I am pretty sure they explain a lot on the DVD (not written) which I saw several times. But pre-stretching is not available on this model, so one needs to devise ones' own way of doing it. As there are experienced stringers here with all sorts of machines, that's why i ask here. Thanx.
Oh well what an easy thing to do is set the tensioner to stretch the string to the prestretch tension, release the tensioner (or tell it to go back to it's original neutral position) as if you had clamped it and then reset the string if needed and tension it to the correct tension you want. Ex. Tensioning a main to 24, prestretch to 26.4 what you'll want to do is tension it the first time to 26.4, release the tensioner, retension to 24, clamp, release the tensioner, move to the next main.
Right, that's not too difficult to do. So for a BG65 a example U reckon that for 24LB u pre-stretch to 26.4. Can U just give me a hint for 22LBs and 25 Lbs. Thanx, as I will try that today.
It's just 10% for pretension so take the tension you want to end up with and multiply by 1.1 and you'll have the pretension setting. So for 24lbs it's 24 x 1.1 = 26.4 For 22 lbs it's 22 x 1.1 = 24.2.
Yes my 1st one and I'm not thinking of upgrading anytime soon. My idea was to string for myself and for close (club) friends. I however set out to learn the job as thoroughly as possible. Now I am getting string jobs from other quarters too. Ah btw Druss, thanx for the tip about the 10%.
OK, just to save you some time. Find a fix object in your room. Mount a object that looks like a door knob. Clamp 1 end of string on the fix clamp. Loop 180 degree on the "door knob" and put the other string end on the tension head. Tension the string at 10% higher than your desire tension. wait for 15 sec and release the tension and you are done...
It would. That would cut down my stringing time literally in half. No wonder I was taking like an hour and a half.
Romeo, read from post #5 above for a better understanding. If still unclear then precise WHAT exactly is not clear.
He was comparing my method of pre stretching and taking out slack vd\s his method of pull and re-pull. That will take 2x of time.
I understood the pull/repull method...the doorknob method just isn't processing in my brain for some reason...maybe i need a visual ahaha cause what i'm thinking...it's going to rip the doorknob from my door...or snap the strings
