Help...i have been plagued by this knee problem for years which made me stop badminton. Recently i got back into the game thinking the problem is finally gone...recovered..etc. After playing for a few mths...it seems it becoming as bad or worst! Whenever i bend my right knee at 70-90 degrees...it felt so weak that i would just collapse on the floor. I have problems climbing up stairs & need support at times after games & this will persist the next day too. However..once the knee is throughly warmed up...the problem can just disappear & i can jump/move easily again. But after sitting ard for 5 mins or so...the knee gets 'cold' and the weakness appears again. By weakness i mean my right knee seems incapable of holding up to my weight & will collaspe anytime when i am bending. Is my tendon finished or wat... What can i do to? This problem is killing my game.
My 1st advice is to see a proper Dr. An Orthopedist. He will prob ask for an MRI etc. Do all the tests possible. U will have a correct answer to your question as well as proper treatment.
Possibly could be your patella is slipping out of the femoral groove and displacing. That often gives people that give out feeling. However you cannot rule out cruciate ligament and meniscal problems with a history like that. Definitely see a physio or doctor. Some of those problems are more serious than others. Best of luck
need an MRI or at least some imaging. other option would be to see an orthopaedic surgeon about it, as you may need at least an arthroscopy to diagnose the problem. I would certainly keep away from any vigorous activity until you get this problem sorted, as it could get worse, requiring more drastic procedures. my medical advice. -Greg
I agree with fidget. You need to see an orthopaedic specialist and get an MRI of the knee. It's quite possible you ruptured the tendon in the past but didn't realise.
Is it that bad? Cos once the knee is properly warmed up & stuff...it feels as good as new. But somehow i feel something is very wrong cos nobody has this issue. Thks for all the advice. I guess i will go see an orthopaedic & see wats the problem.
Some of the tendon injuries are like that. I know one guy with an ACL rupture in his knee and he still goes and plays football. Muscles around the knee can compensate up to a degree. When you say your knee gets weak at 90 degrees, this is something you should definitely go and get seen by a specialist.
Get Money to Burn? If you can afford a 7T MRI scan, go for it: http://www.hku.hk/bisplab/ (is it for research only?) http://www.medical.siemens.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/PSGenericDisplay~q_catalogId~e_-11~a_catTree~e_100001~a_langId~e_-11~a_pageId~e_68112~a_storeId~e_10001.htm http://www.medical.siemens.com/siem...007/Cardiology_7_Tesla_MRI_MedSol_06_2007.pdf
Think i am getting a specialist to look at it first...hope its not something major. Meanwhile...i will cont playing easy games with a knee strap & deep heat. That should do the trick for the time being.
Dude.. You in Melbourne, it should be a lot of specialist there.. So far I know you need to see a general doctor before you can directly see a specialist, I have done my knee reconstruction with Dr. John D Grifith at Cabrini Hospital at 2001 I don think u need an MRI, probably u need an osteoscopy somthing something.. I have a problem of my knee that if I bend pivot for my knee, my knee will automatically weaken.. Anyway see the Doctor mate
So did u finally find out about your pain. Recently I found out that I had a 'cyst' in the joint at the back of my knee which is actually the main cause of pain in this area :crying::crying::crying:
Not yet guys. Thks for the replies. I found that proper warming up will make the problem go away. Once i am fully warmed after 2-3 games...i feel like i am 18 again. lol I tired knee supports (those with a hole in the middle) but it doesn't seem to work. But its the before and after the game that i suffer from weakness of the knee. Anyway i am pretty new in Melbourne & medical care here is expensive....will go see a specialist once i get medical insurance or something.
try jogging as fast as possible in the swimming pool , this will strengthen your knee. slowly u will regain your strength.
