Indian badminton is growing day by day which is a proof of what has happened aftermath of Saina's huge success in Indian badminton.

Its becoming quite common nowadays in India that parents are gifting badminton rackets instead of Cricket bats to their children.

There are many youngsters thriving in huge lines to participate in local badminton competition which was recently held in chennai(one of metropolitan cities of India). Quite interesting to know that. I was happier even to know that they waited for hours for their turn to come.. Really happy to hear that. The condition prevails now is a complete 'U' turn of what prevailed in the previous year. Why is that situation? If we carefully analyse the situation , we can clearly able to see the motivation created by the youngster Saina Nehwal behind it.

GopiChand has pointed out that 2012 was a wonderful year of success for the badminton of INDIA. Really speaking, thats true. Out of his own interest, he produced such a talent who can compete against any top badminton players of the world . Next in row, P.V.Sindhu who is a child star starting to follow the footsteps of Saina with carefull guidance of Gopichand. Really we are in a position to praise this coach who has dedicated his life to this sport which we cant see in anybodyelse. .

Many 15 year old girls has started to do big in badminton of India nowadays. Out of those, if we wanna mention specifically, we can find two or three who will do big in the arena.

1) Ruthvika Shivani.
2) Rituparna Das.

In men's section, many youngsters has started to do more with the help of Gopichand. Many players has come under top 50 in the past year alone. I believe in many youngsters who are doing excellently well in recent days.

These are some persons who will shine the name of Indian badminton and take that to next level. I wish all the very best to all these players to perform well in this wonderful year 2013 and prove their talent to whole world.

I predict loss of dominance in WS & MD.
WS - Injury prone probably due to trying too hard, WSX on her way out it apprears
MD - Only 1 aging pair with no credible replacement.

Ajay jayaram, a better player than kashyap is going to face Daren Liew this malaysian open with his just treated abdomen(food poison).
I wish him to come back to his normal game in this new year 2013.

It seems Aswini is playing with pradnya gadre. Till April , she will be partenering Gadre and later she will go on with her old partner Jwala.

Sindhu has huge task against her. Tine in her reback form(?) will have an edge over sindhu.

Why not srikanth be called and given chance to learn and gain experience in superseries tournaments ???.. Talented youngster with huge potential still at back without opportunities...

Advice and interference from parents just confuses the players, which is very harmful,” said Padukone, who spoke at a felicitation function for the players from the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy (PPBA) at the Karnataka Badminton Association (KBA) on Monday.

“I request the parents not to pamper or pressurise the children too much; it is best to leave them to learn from mistakes on their own,” Padukone added.

India’s Ashwini Ponnappa and Pradnya Gadre achieved a stunning result at the Malaysia Open Superseries, upsetting a fancied Chinese pair on Thursday.

The new pair of Ponnappa and Gadre, formed after Ponnappa’s regular partner Jwala Gutta decided on a sabbatical after the London Olympics, shocked the Chinese pair of Ma Jin/Tang Jinhua in the second round in a thriller of a match, 22-24 21-16 21-19. The Indians next face a relatively weaker Indonesian team in the quarterfinals.

Ma Jin and Tang Jinhua won two Superseries events in 2012 and the final of the Korea Open last week. Ma Jin is regarded as one of the finest contemporary women’s doubles players, as she has won nearly every title with different partners.
On Thursday, however, the Indian pair kept its nerve in the pivotal third game. The managed to keep a lead throughout, and even when the Chinese equalised from 13-16 and 17-19, the Indians didn’t lose heart. They converted their first match point.

Earlier, the first game was neck-and-neck. The Chinese had two game points at 20-18 but Ponnappa and Gadre saved both. Eventually, Ma Jin and Tang Jinhua converted their fifth game point, but the confidence of the Indians was so high that they won the second game quite easily.
Tom John, coach of Ashwini Ponnappa, was thrilled about the result. “It’s a good win,” he said. “They have to go on and win the next match too.”

Good news, a credible WD combination. Hope they do well and be consistent.
Talking about Gutta, she should get someone else to partner her.
She cannot expect after taking a long break to continue where she left off.

I think things were not well between Gutta and Ponappa. By the way, yesterdays win was BIG! Great to see indian WD pair in the quarters after long time. Great if they could make it to the semis today.

Prajakta Sawant's 'malicious' plea devoid of merit: Gopichand

Chief national badminton coach Pullela Gopichand termed the petition filed by shuttler Prajakta Sawant as "false and malicious" in his affidavit submitted to the Bombay High Court here on Wednesday. In her petition, the 19-year-old Sawant, had alleged mental harassment by Gopichand after being refused entry to the all-India national coaching camp in Hyderabad.

"The contentions in Sawant's petition are false, malicious, vexatious and devoid of merit and should be dismissed," said Gopichand in his affidavit.

"It is mandatory requirement as per government guidelines that the chief national coach be a member of the selection committee. The selection is based on merit and performance and no partiality or bias is shown towards any player. The final selection is cleared by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports," the affidavit filed by BAI's general secretary Vijai Sinha said.

On allegations that Gopichand nursed a grudge against Sawant after she requested for her doubles and mixed doubles partners to be changed, the affidavit says, "Partners are chosen by the players themselves. The coach has no role to play in this. The petitioner was a very promising young prospect whom I was grooming since 2009. I bear no grudge or ill will towards her."


Meanwhile, claiming that he and his mother, a administrative member of PGBA, was being harassed by Sawant and her father, Gopichand said, "On several occasions, Sawant and her father had communicated with us making all sorts of wild and reckless allegations. Once Sawant even threatened to commit suicide. The court should look into this."

Prajakta case: HC directive to BAI

The Bombay High Court on Thursday asked the Badminton Authority of India (BAI) to consider Prajakta Sawant’s name for two upcoming international tournaments. The court was hearing the petition filed by Prajakta against chief national coach P. Gopichand alleging mental harassment after she was refused entry into the national camp in Hyderabad last year.

A division bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice A.V. Mohta was informed by Prajakta’s counsel Piyush Shah that she had filed an application to the BAI seeking entry into the German Open and All England Open championships along with G. Jwala in women’s doubles. BAI, however, told the court that players cannot directly approach them seeking entry and the association with which they were affiliated, the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) in this case, has to forward the entry proposal.

“Since the last date of entries for these two tournaments is January 29, it would be difficult for the petitioners to get their proposal forwarded by her association. Hence, BAI should consider the entry for both the players by January 29,” the division bench directed.

The court also asked BAI why they wanted to play with her career and with the sport as well. “In last six months, she (Prajakta) has not been allowed to participate in any tournament. The sport is suffering due to this,” observed the court.

The player has also alleged in her petition that Gopichand promoted players from his private training academy. The court has asked the Sports Authority of India to look into the matter and resolve it. The next hearing will be on January 30.

Its interesting that she is going to partner Jwala(No idea what happened to her previous claim that she will be partnering Aswini after her return ). Two big mouths joined together now. Lets see what happens next.

Isn't the entry based on rating? Since Prajakta and Jwala have not played at all in any tournaments, they wont even make the reserve list, right?

Anyway can confirm how this works?

I guess prajacta-jwala pair would be aiming mostly IBL, rather than various superseries'.
