I have a Gamma Progression ST 2. I was looking at Watdon's badminton fixed clamp. Do you know if it's any good? Will it fit my machine? Thanks.

you'd better get from Gamma instead of Watdon.
Gamma also has the badminton fixed-clamp, and it is also OK.
you can search at www.atssports.com for Gamma badminton fixed clamp.

If you mean the ones that look like this then yes, Wat Don have them, and yes, they are ideally suited to badminton (and yes, I can get them for you).

However, I had an episode with a failure of one of these: there is a ball bearing on the end of a screw that adjusts the gap, and this bearing had deformed the locking plate to the point where the ball kept popping out. I got some universal (i.e. all racket sports) clamps from Wat Don, looking like this, and these are outstanding - indeed, DinkALot got two pairs from me and loves them more and more every day - so I recommend you go for these, as they have a far more precise and robust adjusting mechanism.

Oh sounds good. However, the reason why I always looking for a badminton specific fixed clamp is so that it'll be easier to use at the edge of the rackets, near the frames. If it is a universal clamp, wouldn't it be about the same as the fixed clamps that came with my machine?

The universal clamps have no issues that I can see regarding frame clearance. Indeed, when clamping my last main to tie off I can get the clamp so close to the frame that there's no loose string at all. I'll take a picture later today to show you what I mean.

This shows the clamps as they would be holding main 10 while tying off. Can't really get much closer to the frame.

    Hi Mark,

Thanks, that's very close, very good.
Could take the picture so we can see the whole racket frame from top also what kind of side-support did you use ? thanks

No worries - 3 mins work. My machine has been modded out of all recognition, so be forewarned.

Here's a pic - lighting is cack because it's tungsten, but you get the general idea:

From your pictures, it seems that it's because your side supports is the factor that provides you with better clearance, not the clamp itself?

I don't think badminton fixed clamps really make a big difference when you're clamping the side of the racquet. You may end up pushing the strings around more with a tennis fixed clamp but it'll work. For me the biggest difference would be when you're starting the mains, they'd get in each other's way less.
