YANG, Chih Hsun (TPE) beat MOHMED MISBUN, Misbun Ramdan (MAS) 18-21; 21-10; 21-15

    ?????

At least Loh Wei Sheng and Goh Giap Chin saved the blushes for MAS in the opening round.

Malaysia's back-up players results from 1st day of New Zealand, just to summarize

Soon Huat Goh - Brent Miller 21-5 21-14

Jiann Shiarng Chiang - Zdenek Svata 21-4 21-5

Wing Ki Wong [3/4] - Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif 21-16 21-15

Of course I don't expect Arif to win but the manner which he lost is... disappointing to say the least. I wonder if he's training hard or only training for KL Open?

    Last result of the day:

    Tommy Sugiarto [2] - Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin 17-21 21-8 21-19

A good fight against Indonesia's future hope for MS and I certainly didn't expect Iskandar to even steal a game. However, this again shows that the standard of Malaysia's backup players is still below par! Of course I don't expect them to win but then, they should surprise and shock us!

we called for chances to be given to youngsters...
so I think is only fair to expect decent results from them at the moment...

Although I never placed high expectations on our single players because we know that they just aren't up to par, they should take the iniatiative to surprise us.

Hu Yun beat Goh Soon Huat - 21-15; 21-19 - Goh Soon Huat apparently not good enough to steal a game.
Mathieu Lo Ying Ping beat Chiang Jiann Shiarng 21-14; 21-7 - Don't know who this guy is

Our doubles pair are left in the tournament.

Unfortunately for MAS (and INA), no players are left in MS of the Vietnam IC 2011.

This is despite fielding: Kuan Kam Chung, Yeoh Kay Bin, Lok Chong Chieh [12], Saw Weng Jun, Yeoh Kay Ee, Misbun Ramdan Mohd Misbun, Woon Kok Hong, Loh Wei Sheng, Goh Giap Chin, Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub, Loke Kok Pong, Soong Joo Ven, Lee Jian Jie, Beryno Wong Jiann Tze [11], and Tan Kian Meng. A total of 15 players in R64 (almost 1/4 of the total number).

No luck as well for the back-ups in the New Zealand IC 2011, despite fielding: Goh Soon Huat, Mohd Arif Abdul Latif and Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin.

Yes, it's good that they are being sent to this type of GP tournament rather than SS tourney..

But then, in Gp tournament also, early round already pack bags..

Our 2 doubles pairs are still doing fine, but more worrying is the singles where no back-up player caused an upset to progress past the second round. Yogendran Krishnan and Hafiz Hashim are no longer in the BAM squad but they have went further than Goh Soon Huat, Mohd Arif Abdul Latif and Iskandar Zulkarnain did.

Goh Wei Shem/Lim Khim Wah [5/8] beat Chung Jen Chen/Yen Jen Lin [3/4] 21-13; 21-10
Good job disposing of the third seeds in convincing fashion, although I expected nothing less.

Chooi Kah Ming/Ow Yao Han beat Hiroyuki Saeki/Ryota Taohata 21-18; 21-19
JPN pairs, unknown or not are dangerous. I'm glad that they won to make it to SF. Good luck!

Huang Po Yi/Lu Chia Bin beat Chooi Kah Ming/Ow Yao Han 21-14; 21-19

Quite a disappointing loss for me as I have never heard the names of the Taipei players who beat them before... although the Taipei players beat the #1 seeds easily too..
