What is the absolute lowest price that a machine can cost (yes even used)? Is it possible that I could get an okay machine for under $50? BTW I don't work with high tensions, highest I would go is probably around 25 maybe 26 lbs at max
Not gunna happen. You'll get cheap junk, it would most likely make stringing more of a chore than it already is. 25-26 pounds is high tension for most badminton rackets, you need something with a strong frame to support it otherwise it could result in the racket imploding.
£55 pounds you kidding?? Would you like to share what machine this is and where from please!! Just out of interest, as i spent much more on mine and would liek to see what quality you have got for this money? James

That stringer is somewhat usefull but I find that the hand crank doesn't have enough range. It really made stringing an big chore.
hi chewablemorphin could you explain what you mean enough range ?? do you mean the actual track that the tensioner runs on? i havnt had any problems so far saying that iv only strung 7 or so rackets since ive had it, but my time is already down to 33mins
what tension were you pulling ? iv tried upto 28 and that only used half the track if not less to tension ? il takes some photos for everyone anyway to show what you can get for a small figure of money
Less than 24. It was not my stringer, and I'm used to much better ones. However... whatever gets the job done I guess.
Just realized I never helped the OP out. Most people would tell you to save up and get something a little nicer so you don't get buyer's remorse. I agree and disagree. I did buy something nicer but still swapped machines twice. Probably because the grass is greener on the other side. Would have been nice if I were able to try them before purchasing but that was a luxury I did not have. So I think you will really have to decide if you'd like to test the waters or really get a full blown machine and try to never look back. I believe the quality of string jobs from any drop-weight will be a bit better than a crank and should be cheaper too. However for a general frame of reference, if you've gotten a machine and quality clamps (very important) for under 150 USD, you probably not going to get something that will provide a more nuisance that convenience. (Edit: I would be talking about retail prices, Ebay prices can vary so much, it's your call)
I personally got a crank even knowing it was not as accurate as a drop machine purely because I planned on getting the wise head in the future. I also use a fish scale to ensure accuracy before each string job and when I change tensions for the crosses.
Distanc3: Yes I am. I went Laserfibre -> Alpha Revo4000 -> Stringway ML100 with all the premiums (single action fixed clamps). druss: True, but I guess I'm more comfortable not having to worry about electronics or finding an outlet.
There is that but from what I read the wise head is worth the investment. Plus, my stringer is fixed in my hobby room and I have no plans on moving it. If I had not heard of the wise head then I probably would have gone with a drop weight as well.
