I know this may sound REALLY strange, but has anybody tried dual strings on their rackets before? (Eg BG65 for mains, BG80 for cross)

One model of Toalson has 2 different strings packed inside one for main and one for cross.

    Really

Are you sure thats not for tennis?? Tennis players normally used hybrid strings on their rackets.

I'm struggling to see the point of a badminton hybrid with two polyester strings:D - surely you would choose gut for the crosses if you wanted the feel that tennis players get...

Thats a good point Mark. Am thinking of doing it to find out what it feels like.
I don't see what I will accomplish from this foolish experiment. Will it provide better control, more power??!!

Gut is used on crosses expressly for control and "feel" in tennis, so I would expect a similar response if you tried it with badminton. Gut, though, is a totally unknown quantity in sub-1 mm gauges - you can get it, but I don't know anyone who has used it (or even STRUNG with it, and I know quite a few stringers...).

I, for one, would be very interested to see what happends if you tried it:D.

Your right, I don't think I can get natural gut below -1mm. Would be nice to try out.
I used to play with an older gentleman, he has played with natural gut and oil filled string.

I was proposing to use either of the following combination:
    • Zymax 67 for mains and Zymax 62 for crosses
    • BG80 for mains and BG66 for crosses

Quite pessimistic about it. I expect it to be a waste of time & string. Will hopefully be able to test one of these combinations within the few weeks.

Actually you can get gut in 0.80, 0.75 and 0.70 mm - Titan, Klip and Babolat all still make it. Ask W&D Strings about them (but they're up to £13 a set + VAT...).

Thanks Mark. I will speak to them. If I can get a 0.70mm set, I'll string the mains with the BG80 and see how that goes. Gut is not cheap!!

Actually you could do two versions with one pack of gut (and still have some left over:)). Just make sure it's pre-stretched before you put it in the frame - gut is horrible for twisting up during weaving.

Mark, thanks for the advice. What I'll do is, I'll do a quick review with the gut as crosses and send you the rest, so you can decide if you want to do a review yourself (either with gut as main or crosses). Hows that sound? :D

Wow, what an offer! I can pay postage, but that's about it; if you do want to make some cash back I'm sure someone on here will take half a pack of gut off you;).

Mark, don't worry about the postage etc.. I'll send the rest to you. Currently in the process of ordering the Babolat VS Touch (0.70mm). Please PM me your address so I can send the rest (minus the cross amount), when it arrives. Been told that it can take tension up to 45lb!!! Time will tell :p

Will be stringing it in the next few days with Zymax 67 as the mains and gut as crosses. Gut feels soft on touch. Mark, will have half of gut out to you in next few days.
