Dear Camera Gurus As some of you might know, I plan to be in KL for the TC/UC in May. I won't be bringing my DSLR so I need to buy a serviceable P&S camera for the trip. Portability makes the most sense. I will use the camera for general purposes during my stay in Malaysia; taking good action badminton shots is not necessarily a priority. I'll be happy to get a few pics of players taken with me; I'm leaving the actual badminton shots to the pros. Therefore I would like a good, robust, all-purpose camera. One caveat–waterproof casing is a must. Price range? I don't really know. All recommendations are welcome. Thanks mb
^^Dear madbad..^^ ..guess what, i am also in the same boat as you.. Right now, if i were you, i'm looking at a P&S camera which has an HD recording capability (planning to shoot a few videos as well). There are a few out there that i'm interested at, esp. the superzoom ones. I know they run from abt $299 up to over $400 (before the memory card(s) and extra battery) maybe you can help me out too??.. kwun, which one would you consider??..is Kodak any good??..

D10 is very good underwater. However, outside other cameras can be better (but those cannot go underwater!)
Thanks for the link viver, that was very useful. Looks like a choice between the D-10 and Lumix TS1 Taking out the waterproof portion, which would you (or anyone) say is the better overall camera? Like I said, my use of the camera in water constitutes only a part of the holiday. It still needs to perform well under normal conditions.
It's decision time already??.. ..wow, that was pretty quick and you really narrowed it down to 2 choices. Looking at both, for me, it's simple: If you want a camera with "faster" & "better" lens & performance in low light situation, but no HD feature and narrower/shorter lens coverage, go for the Canon D10. Not decision time yet. I was referring to the 2 best choices from viver's link. Still several months left. Might be newer models out before I leave. What about you? Anything caught your eye?
^^I think..^^ ..i'm getting confused myself...can't make up my mind..:crying: Helpppp, kwun!!.. I know he likes & would recommend the G10 & G11....but neither has HD feature.. Personally, I'm focusing on these 3 features: - HD capability - Superzoom lens (willing to give up a faster lens); but what can we do anyway with a P&S camera.. - RAW capability
Can't go wrong with either Canon G11 or Lumix LX-3, especially if you plan to take them underwater. Both are about the same price. Note most waterproof cameras are rated only around 3m or 10', which is only good for snorkeling. Underwater casings however are rated usually 30m or more. That should be good enough to serve any recreational diving purpose. I am currently using a Canon G10 for underwater shooting. Would have gotten Lumix LX-3 if panasonic had come out with a housing for it sooner. Now I think they do. Good luck shopping.

Yes,it cost me a few hundred ringgits. It looks like this I am not sure what your intention is about the waterproofing part. If it is only for some shots at the beach, occasional dip in the pool or some snorkeling, those waterproof cameras might be adequate.
2 more models have been announced: Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2 and Sony DSC-TX5. At least we have a better selection now
