This may seem like a ridiculous and obvious question, but I skimmed over the Laws of Badminton and couldn't find an answer.

Say you hit a powerful drive shot and it bounces off an opposing player's head and lands in your own court, who would get the point in this situation?

In other words, is it possible to get points from using your body as opposed to making contact with your racket?

(I apologize if I've wasted your time with this silly question.)

According to law 13.3.5: "It shall be a fault if in play, the shuttle touches the person or dress of a player."

So no, once the bird touches the opponent's head, it's considered a fault, and you win the point.

    OUCH!!!!!!!!!!

yeah, as long as the shuttle makes contact with any part of the body/clothing, its considered a fault.

ps: which part of your opponent's head, by the way?

I did this once playing mixed. Blasted the gal on the other side in the forehead and it came back over the net. We didnt' know she hadn't hit the shuttle with her head ( she was a tad stunned and didn't day anything at first) and we kept playing.

Soon as she came to, she called the point to us.

Tough cookie- she finished the game.

To the best of my knowledge, this is not true! In theory, you can hold the racket from the head and play with the handle and it would still be legal! (with the exception of the serve being below the waist)

I've seen a trick shot played in a tournament where the person uses their handle at the net, the umpire allowed it.
