I remember reading somewhere that you can use weight lifting powder on your hands and grip as a substitute for grip powder... how effective is this?
If I'm not wrong, the Karakal Grip Powder (which I know a lot of people use for badminton) is also designed for use with weight lifting and gymnastics.
I bought two blocks of power from local Gym Kids center before. It's OK. But I found the Prince Grip Plus lotion is most effective and easy to carry and use.
sorry, i should clarify, I'm using weightlifting CHALK so should i be looking for gymnastic powder? or just buy the badminton stuff? i'm looking for an inexpensive option, and since i have chalk, i was thinking it's substitutable?
The Karakal multipurpose grip powder (which actually has a picture of a badminton racquet on the bottle) is pretty cheap and works awesome for increasing tackiness. The only problem I have with it is that if it mixes with your sweat it will harden into a messy goo which ruins my towel grip very often.
I use something called "Mighty Grip", which stresses on the bottle that it is NOT simply chalk, and it works really well - I can almost turn my hand over and open it without the racket falling out. The odd wipe of the grip with acetone/rubbing alcohol gets rid of any residue after a session.
I've tested weight lifting chalk. It works fine for grip, but turns into something that looks like cement when it mixes with your sweat and dryes. That's a big minus if you use towelgrip. Feels like griping a piece of tarmac next training session. It also dryes out your skin.
