    Hey Guys & Gals,

I know it's very easy to find decent and good quality Sichuan food in Mainland China but it's incredibly difficult in HK. Simply put, the locals are more into Cantonese Food than very peppery stuffs. A friend of mine told me to go to Tsim Sha Tsui. Is this true? Are there a lot of Sichuan restaurants in Tsim Sha Tsui? Do they offer the geniune chilly pepper chicken, laced with firey hot peppers and paralyzing hot peppers? I have tried the knocked off Sichuan food in HK but the quality is somewhat to be desired. So, it's hot but in a disgusting kind of way. Any help is highly appreciated.

Whoa! I love Sichuan food..... I really do. Sorry that doesn't help at all. But when I was in Montreal, I saw this restaurant called "Palais Sichuan". Of course, i had the sense not to enter...:D

    Thanks Ricky!

Thank you for your help. I checked out the site already. I still think nothing beats the Sichuan Restaurants in Beihai, Guangxi. One can have a big plate of chilly pepper chicken for RMB 1.00 at those road side stalls. Yummmmmm . . . Anyone interested?

food is cheap and good in China, but it is only if u dare eat it.
I love the food there, but you really gotta be careful which places you enter.

Can someone briefly describe what's chilli pepper chicken ?

I know of chicken, abalone and pig stomach boiled with peppercorns as soup

and also Thai chicken with choices of sauce eg.lemon, barbeque, black pepper etc.

    but not the Szechuan variety.

    Yum

70% of the dish is laced with regular firey hot (wind and sun dried) peppers and Sichuan's very famous (also wind and sun dried) paralyzing hot peppers while the other 30% is highly stirred fried and very small chicken nuggets. The paralyzing chilly pepper really make one's throat itchy and numb. This is the most imprecious and shortest description I can give you. There is more to hotness than meets the tongue. Hot is one thing but aroma and texture is another. It is very hard to describe the sensation to you unless you try it first hand. Of course, need I mention that beer and coconut juice goes very well with Sichuan Food.

Today's newspaper was commenting how cat meat is becoming very popular in in South China. They have to import cats from all over the country.

What's really interesting is there is a cat version of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE). That's something I didn't know before.

So I'm staying well clear of any cat meat!!:D

    Really Hotstuff

Thks fr info on Szecuhan chicken, sounds like the dried Szechuan

    vegetables one eats with porridge.

Look at today's Star in Nation fr sth else really hot in HK.

Guarantted to give you extra lift in yr jump smash when the chilli enters yr stomach.

Well I visited a Szechuan Restaurant in KL and they cooked me chicken cubes with

lots of dried chilli peppers and cashew nuts.

I found it very ordinary and enjoyed more the sliced pork and bamboo shoots in

chilli, pickled long beans and sweet and sour soup.Maybe there's too much

variety of cuisine in Msia, Szechuan food is tame compared to Thai and some of the

    Malay and Indian food.

To each his own, I guess,I still prefer Japanese ginger chicken and Chinese

    steamed chicken (Pak Cham Kai).
