    BAM assures Rexy's job is safe

    2010/01/26

    THE BA of Malaysia (BAM) has assured national doubles coach Rexy Mainaky that his position is not under threat and that he should stop worrying about speculation on his future.
    Rexy, who claimed on Sunday that BAM may not have faith him in anymore, had mentioned there had been speculation about his position and he needed clarification from BAM.

    Much of the speculation seemed to be linked to the arrival of Tan Kim Her and he taking over as chief coach but BAM general manager Kenny Goh confirmed the former national coach's role has not been finalised yet.

    "It was a surprise as we didn't feel Rexy was being bothered by speculation on his position. There is no reason for him to be afraid that he will be sacked unless his performance doesn't meet with BAM's key performance indicator (KPI)," said Kenny.

    "I personally informed him about the inclusion of Kim Her into the coaching set-up and Rexy himself agreed he (Kim Her) would be good for the progress of our doubles. Rexy will give his input on how to utilise Kim Her and we also want to hear from Kim Her about his plans.

    "We are in the process of appraising all the coaches but as far as we are concerned, Rexy is still the chief coach.
    [IMG]National doubles coach Rexy Mainaky (right) addressing his players before the recent Malaysia Open at the Putra Stadium.
    "A review of our current programme is necessary as our rivals are also improving and there is bound to be changes later but I cannot preempt anything till the coaching and training committee deliberates and finalises the changes."

    The inconsistency of elite pairs Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong and Zakry Latif-Fairuzizuan Tazari, coupled with the slow progress of the back-up doubles, may have prompted BAM to bring back Kim Her who is currently attached to the BA of England.

    So, it's understandable that Rexy, as the chief coach, started feeling the heat but BAM is unlikely to part ways with him as the former Indonesian star can still contribute to the national team.

    A reshuffle may take place where Kim Her, if he doesn't replace Rexy, could be utilised to guide the elite pairs together with Rosman Razak.

    BAM intention(aka. kenny Goh "wise" speech about Rexy's endangered position in BAM) is very clear. If MD can not perform on this pivotal TC year, Rexy is expendable at BAM's mercy with the arrival of TKH. He has only one pair to depend being KKK/TBH while the rest is non-existed, i want to point out that ZL/FT is a disaster, would've have been a disaster even with the best coach in the world. So pack your bag and come home to Jakarta. Kenny Goh is so full of it:D

    me agrees
    However I can't see where the iconsistences in KKK/TBH are. Maybe that's cause I am too much of a fan.
    However, if you look at it. Malaysia only have one good competitior for each title, and have no XD
    MS=LCW
    MD=KKK/TBH
    WS=WMC
    WD=CEH/WPT

    No back up whatsoever If any get injured

    BAM: Rexy need not worry if he is doing his job
    KUALA LUMPUR: The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) are surprised over an outburst by Rexy Mainaky but they are ready to answer any doubt that the Indonesian has on his status as the country’s doubles chief coach.

    The BAM felt that Rexy should fear not about his job or his status in the national team set-up if he had carried out his tasks accordingly.

    On Sunday, Rexy defended his commitment in serving the national team and justified his role as the doubles chief coach in a press conference last Sunday after his charges, Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong, lifted the Malaysian Open title.

    The win ended Malaysia’s three-year wait for a men’s pair to win the home title. Kien Keat-Boon Heong were the previous winners in 2007.

    Rexy did not give reasons for his outburst but raised enough room for speculation that he was unhappy with his working environment.

    He said that he had carried his job faithfully and had done his best as a coach for Malaysia since he took up appointment in 2005.

    He felt that the BAM had undermined his role based on the rumours he heard but did not specify.

    The BAM general manager, Kenny Goh, said yesterday that they hoped Rexy would thrash out matters close to his heart with them.

    “His reaction comes as a news to us (the BAM). We did not know that he felt this way. He had never expressed it to us,” said Kenny in a press conference at the BAM’s office.

    “The key word here is communication. He is allowed to speak to us any time. In BAM, we have a system. If Rexy continues to do his work and meet his KPI (Key Performance Index), he should not be afraid of being sacked. He should not be unduly worried.”

    Kenny denied that there was a plan to sack the Indonesian. And he did not think that the appointment of Tan Kim Her as a doubles coach for the national set-up had anything to do with it.

    “The BAM still have trust in him. In fact, I have spoken to Rexy about Kim Her. He said that Kim Her’s presence was good for the team,” said Kenny.

    “He has agreed to come out with a proposal on how best we can make use of Kim Her and will present it at the next CNT (coaching and training committee) meeting.”

    Kenny added that the BAM consistently reviewed their programmes and the coaches.

    “In the recent Malaysian Open, some players met the target but some did not,” he said.

    “Some of the rival players are improving. China quietly took three titles in the Malaysian Open. We have to continually review and see how best we can move forward.”

    Ouch... its BAM again.

    In telling Rexy not to worry about his job when Tan Kim Her is in the midst of finalizing some details of his contract with BAM sounds like a husband telling his first wife not to worry when he is walking down the aisle with another woman! What a joke.

    What do people like Kenny Goh & Ganga Rao knows? Everything except badminton.
    What has these 2 fellows done in terms of contributions towards the game? Nothing except making senseless decisions, then talk like a lawyer buruk with all their nonsense to justify their claims and at the end of the day telling people not to worry when they should.

    Like their predecessors, BAM today is similar to the BAM 10 years ago. In simple term 'Same **** Different Day'.

    Where are those old school trios but efficient coaches like Fang Kai Xiang, Han Jian & Yang Yang who led to our last Thomas Cup victory?
    Where is the great Morten Frost who discovered the young talent in Lee Chong Wei?
    Where is the well respected late Indra Gunawan?
    Where is the no-nonsense coach Li Mao who first developed Datuk into a world class player? Anywhere worthy except BAM.

    Thanks God Rexy is still with us. Without you, there is no KKK/TBH and CEH/WPT. Hope that you can stay with us as long as possible. Those who knows appreciate your effort.

    Also thank you to Mr. Hendrawan in coming over to Malaysia to clean-up somebody's mess. Eventhough you were a great player who can do wonders on your day and a decent coach now, these messes are difficult to clean.

    Without coaches like you, "they" are the ones who should worry!

    Don't worry. Rexy's job in Malaysia is quite safe as long as kkk/tbh still holds the WR1 :D:D
