    Hai there BC members,

In regards discussing about what are the strategies in winning while playing doubles, one can discuss from a lot of aspect..however, i just want to share my knowledge about what are the strategies from the point of attacking (smash) that can help to gain high probability of point while playing double.

Indeed playing double, especially from the current point system has speed up the paste of the game play thus demand more agility and accuracy from the player. Therefore, having the knowledge and opportunity to attack your opponent in certain critical area that will increase your chances of getting points will be very useful as part of the game play strategies. This critical area:

    1. Sideline smash

Priority area of attack than any other are with high probability of success ( even if your opponent in defense mode) in gaining points or succeeding in gaining points from further attack at the similar area.

    2. Body attack

Anywhere will do, but chances in getting points is much higher if
    - your opponent is off balance (just fall down/ slip/ shoes gone off/ run away because of terrorist attack/ injured after being bitten by a stray dog/ sudden blindness from an unknown cause.........:D:Dsorry i can't stop from amking silly statements)
-if he is a right handed, attack him at his right shoulder
-if he is a left handed, attack him at his left shoulder
-he is off guard (racket level is low)

However, to produce great results from the 2nd,3rd and 4th facts above require precise accuracy of attack and awareness in the state of your opponent.

    3. Channel attack (in between) both opponent

Well.......:mad::mad:don't just sit there and mumbling.......go to the court NOW and START doing some smashing drill.............................:)

Something I find also works very well is if you smash at the weaker one a couple of times and then hit one at the other partner. Often after not hitting for a few strokes they become slightly out of rhythm. That's the best time to take advantage.

    Hiiiii shooting stroke,

You know. Like plays. Eg. Surfing it to the back corner, then anticipating his return and returning it to the corners or something.

like general patterns. like what to do when receiving a surf and where you want to hit it to. like how you and your partner plan the rally to go.

    Hai birdy,

In general, the key plan and the best approach in winning double is, you and your partner always trying to continously create the opportunity so that both of you is always on the offensive side while playing. You and your partner will yield more success if you're on the attacking side rather on the defensive side.

How you're going to do this? You need to play the shuttle continously low as possible so that you will not create any chance for your opponent to attack and at the same time by doing this, the pressure will shift to your opponent so that they don't have any other choice other than to lift the shuttle for you to attack. Similarly as like yoppy stated, to play low, you need to emphasize on all spectrum of low level shots ( and possibly win it):

    1. Net play

    - Continously execute it in any possible chance ( tight spinning net, tap or anticipated hit for any lift etc)........see how Koo Kien Kiat or Hendra Setiawan plays once their controlling the front court...thier net play is so lethal

    2. Drive

    - Very important to out manoevered your opponent especially the fast flate drive

    3. Smash

    - A powerfull and the correct placement of smash will be the most lethal way in winning a point. If you can't smash then do a...

    4. Semi smash / Slice / chop

    - If you can't do this than do a.....

    5. Drop shot

    6. Semi court placement lift

    - In any case you are force to do a lift, then possibly try to do a semi court placement lift.

Indeed, when one want to discuss about the winning strategies in double, there are numerous approach that can be applied because it is a dynamic type of sports that can be played with numerous type of gameplay pattern. No two double player has the identical pattern of gameplay , therefore, there are no pattern that can be sum up as a definitive tactic in double since to be unpredictable is better than to be predictable while playing. Therefore, whatever double gameplay pattern you and your partner are playing, tune it so that it can align always with the above guide in order for you to always gain the advantage.

my opinion, jus whack as hard and fast as u can when u have a clear by opponent while try to maintain your position for the next shot. accurate positioning of the hit at your opponent court is not so important but try to vary them. trying to place the hit may make those less skillful (me, me!!) make mistake. and dont keep hitting the same spot. and not too flat or your opponent will send you another side of the court.

Yes the killer shot should be the smash, but to open opportunity to smash you need first to win the front court and while doing that there are also many posibilities that ur opponents make mistakes

if it's plays you want then there's like millions but it's all depending on who you're playing with, see if you are playing an pair that wer orgainzed you won't really be able to move them in a meaningful way to create openings since they will be able to cover for each other.

    here's some plays either way

    Standard positions
    1. Front and back
    a. This is basically where one guy stands in the front and one guy in the back. Duh. This is the ultimate goal of movement. In almost every situation you want to be in the front and back because it is the best for offense, and who doesn’t want to attack? You will win a lot more points in this position verses any other since it gives you the best options for offense ie someone close to the net to finish points
    b. A basic flaw in this formation is that it leaves the sides open for counters. That means that for a pair that isn’t well co-ordinated it’s easy to cause mayhem. Also this creates the problem of shifting back into side-to-side if communication is poor.
    2. Side-to-side
    a. This is where you stand side to side t is used to defend against smashes, or defense in general. It is the generally accepted form of defense.
    b. What this lacks is the ability to attack like the front and back formation. What this means that it is more difficult to win points against evenly matched opponents.
Most formations are based on this and most strategies is to break opponents from this. Here are some ideas that I’ve given.

    1. Against front and back
    a. Punish the back
    i. Lift the bird into the rear player’s back hand. Most players do not have a killer back hand to smash downwards, that means it won’t be an instant kill. Then push it to the other side and make them run. Repeat until your opponents make a mistake. This is generally pretty safe is you keep your bird just out of reach from the front player since if you give them too much time to adjust will result in you going onto the defensive. And generally it’s hard to make mistakes lifting the bird.
    b. Drive to the lines
    i. Another idea is to push the bird into the alleys. What this does is force the rear player to dig it out. Note that this should be done in a way that makes sure that the other net player can’t get their racquet on the bird. This is a little trickier but if you wait long enough and press them long enough, you should see something you can net kill.
    c. Too much help
    i. This is very situational, sometimes when you push in the back the rear player will go after it in one end. Then when you lift into the other the net player will start to move backward and to hit it. This is perfect to hit a drop into the net player’s side for two reasons. One it is further from the rear player who has probably recovered his balance, second the weight of the net player is moving away from that direction. This makes this location the best to hit a drop shot.

    Now I’m lazy
    Against side to side
Attack weaker player and force them to lift with smashes if they try a drop return net kill anything weak. Or play an awesome drop shot since they are further from the net and thus harder for them to return.

Wait for the drop shot. This is best played as soon as you force someone to move. Once you can force them to shift their position a little you can score easy points since it’s hard to fun that far for a quick drop.

post more or feel free to disagree, the more discussion the better all our strategies become.

Against poorly matched partners hit into the middle since most of them won’t be able to co-ordinate who is supposed to return it.
