In competition: Fu Haifeng's jump smash at 332km/h.
Outside: Tan Boon Heong at 421 km/h...though with different equipment and etc.

    Other "unofficial records"
    Taufik Hidayat's 260km/h backhand smash....
    Taufik's 305 km/h jump smash (fastest singles)

Not true. Last time I watched the semi final game between Lee Hyun Il and Bao Chunlai at the World Championships 2006 in Madrid again, and Lee topped Taufik two times in that match. He smashed one at 308 km/h and once even at 310 km/h!!! I'm quite sure about that.

I guess all the time everyone thought Taufik had the hardest smash in singles.

yes, it just happen that taufik's smash was better documented (youtube), plus that a speed camera can't measure every shot , everywhere. It does seem all the top MS pros can smash at 300-310 kpm range. A +/- few kph isn't make much different at the receiving end of those smashes;)

Lin Dan's smashes are actually pretty weak xD, but he has the best smashes + best angles + most deceptive

I wish i would see them live. but chances are, being in down under, is quite remote. From what i can see on DVD and you tube, LD's jump smash is the scariest and most powerful in MS

I believe most of Lin Dan's shots on average are most powerful. That is: he plays most of his shots more powerful than others. However, I won't say his smashes are weak, but certainly not the hardest of all.
His angles from the forehand crosscourt smash are the best, together with LCW's crosscourt smash.

If comes to the most hardest smash, I still believe Taufik and LHI have a very hard straight smash. Especially the one from Taufik straight down the forehand side.

As for most deceptive smash, I believe Taufik's backhand side crosscourt smash is most deceptive. Howmany opponents went for the straight smash, while Taufik smashed crosscourt at the very last moment...

Yes but that was recorded by Yonex, not a third party and it was set up in ideal conditions. Fu's is still the fastest recorded in live competition play.

I did not have the speed camera with me to the court that day so I will guess it was around 333km/h +/- 200km/h :D

the idea of a jump smash is to gain more power and a steeper angle

A steeper angle, definitely. But it's hard to see why a jump smash would have more power. Your arms and shoulders work the same way no matter how high off the ground you are, yes? Maybe the jump smash just feels more powerful because of the "intimidation" factor.
