I recently bought 4 new cheap polo type shirts, (Probably knock-offs) white, pale blue, yellow and bright orange. Everytime I wear the bright orange one I get hit by shuttles all night long. and even in the back by my partner. Mostly it doesn't matter cept I 've had two bad hits, one in my eye, and that hurts dammit! And an even crazier one, I got hit in my ear, now who would ever think you could get knocked over by a shuttle? It was weird, no sooner had I felt the hit but I was completely off balance and fell to the floor. Everone from 3 courts around came to see what had happened, wondering if I was having a heart attack or something Anyone want to buy a second hand polo shirt, hardly worn, good condition, bright orange color?
Well, since your inner ear is responsible for your sense of balance it's not surprising that a hit to the ear would cause you to fall... The issue with getting hit does make sense as well... as an opponent, you see a flash of color and it's easy to aim for.
It makes sense to hit at a player who is retreating or out of position and the color would be easy to see but it also makes more sense that one would want to hit away from the color more often than not...???? It would make an interesting study for someone....
Not really, like many predators, hunting is usually done by detecting motion. This goes back to our basic instincts. Since it's easier to detect the motion of a bright color you instinctively aim for it.
I remembered once playing singles against a mate who was wearing an all white kit while the hall was also crystal white on the interior walls. I got totally blind sided LOL.
Yeah, I think the orange shirt, I'm going to pack it neatly in a cellophane bag and give it as a present to someone I don't like.
LOL, wear a shirt that blends in the background and just keep still....dont move a muscle...like a chameleon.... move only when you need to whip out your long tongue to catch any birdies
