just looking at the different string jobs people have at the clubs I go to and it's easy to see that there are so many different ways to tie a knot for a badminton racquet. Just wondering if the stringers in the forum would be gracious enough to comment on their knotting techniques.
My knots are kinda ugly. Instead of those nice looking "slim" versions, mine always twisted like a ball shape. The good part is, they are tight. At least, for now...
mine too LB, kinda the reason why I am starting this thread, try to get some ideas on improving my knots.
Re: alternative knot for polyester strings I think this is my kind. But after 2 knots, it looks like a ball shape. If put 3, then, the last one won't be tight enough.
thanks nic for the pics, they are the ones I have already. I usually do the 2nd kind. there are also some strange variations too that i've seen and have no idea how to do. hmmm, i'll try to find some pic so people can have a better idea of what I am talking about.
This is wat i learned : The knot as shown in the picture, pull it not too tight to the right, then pull it a bit loose again to the upper left, then pull it tight beneath, it should sink into the grommet now. When finished, add another same knot. For the knot at the top of the racket, when the stringing method is used beginning the cross at the top, enhance the single knot with one extra loop. No need to pull it, when tensioning, it pulls itself tight. An extra knot should not be needed, but my experience is that sometimes it will sink too far in the grommet, therefore i add another little knot.
U directly do the knot??? I mean, don't u need to wrap the string around the main string twice or 3 times before tightening for a knot???
Yes, is this strange ? ... Directly tighten it after 1 pass, then it is small enough to sink in the grommet. The second knot is done after that and does not sink into the grommet. The knot is very simple but effective. The person i learned stringing from did it this way, as well as a tournament stringer at the Dutch Open.
What I usually did is: wrap the string around the main string 2 times, then, on the 3rd wrap, pass and tighten for a knot. Then, on the 4th wrap, tight another one. Therefore, only the 1st 1 or 2 wrap will sink in gromment, and the "ball" shape knots all being left outside. Don't know which one is better? I mean, if none of these methods will damage rackets, of course I will go for the simple form...
Don't know either which one is best. I like the method because it's simple. But maybe there is someone who knows some advantages and disadvantages of different methods ?
interesting method yong, might give that a try. there is no risk of the knot actually coming through the grommet?
Used it @ 27 lbs without problems. As long as you apply the second 'safety' knot, no riscs i think. Yeah, give it a try, curious about the results
What I have noticed is that u need to put knots (a min of 2) until the last know remains clearly visible outside of the grommet. Very often the knot gets pulled inside and u do not know if it is tight or loose.
For me tying off is always Parnell - looks small and neat and you can get it very tight indeed, much tighter than a double half hitch. For starting knots I always use the bulky knot (see YULitle's youtube vids) with a fresh grommet.
