Thread: RKEP Grip

could that be because of a shorter grip? or it was exactly the same length? 4-5mm is quite significant!

Just want to ask for a clarification even though it may seem stupid. Are you sure you put the same amount of overlay when you changed grips? Obviously if you put more overlay, the more grip you are using to grip your racket and thus more weight will be put on the handle. I'm going to assume you ended the grip at the same place as you usually do before putting your finishing tape as well?
If you controlled for those specific differences, then yeah that's pretty significant. Then again we've noticed that the different dyes affect the tackiness of certain grips haven't we? I guess it's not unbelievable if they affect the weight as well. Maybe the two are related somehow?
Edit: Seems llpjlau beat me to it.

Yep, same full length, half overlap, just to the bottom of the cone, ie. wrapped exactly the same, with the same finishing tape and all!

ok, just checked grey, no change in bp from white
well, maybe 1-2 mm!

btw, how do you check BP? i want to do them for my rackets too but have no idea how.

I think the only we can get an answer if someone weighs the different color elite grips (with plastic cover and adhesive cover taken off) on an electronic gram scale and test if it's really heavier or not.

i measured both a red and white G09 Elite. the red is actually ~2g heavier than the white.

2g?! that's almost half the weight of a shuttle
how much did each colour weigh?

Wow that's a really significant weight difference for just a grip. Guess we'll have to see what squash eric has to say about this. But for now I guess everyone should take note that if they want a more head light racket, the red grip is the way to go =p.

Yeah, it's like you get a 2g lead tape in the handle thrown in for free with the red grip!
So now I'm mindful of which colour I use with my various rackets, to make sure that I change the bp to something that I prefer.
I have a hunch that the stronger colours will be heavier due to dyes. I wonder how black is. I'll wrap one up tonight and check the bp shift.

doesnt matter how much it shifts the bp, it wont make it swing any different

I've used the red and white rkep elite grips and compared them with a bp difference of 5mm. I can tell the difference in the swing speed, which affects power and maneuverability noticeably.
And all due to a different colour!
Give it a try yourself and see.
I wish Dinkalot could shed some light on this.
But you probably know that racket manufacturers use lead weight inside the racket handle to achieve and fine tune their racket bp's, right? If it didn't matter, then why would they even bother with this step?

So, I just checked bp shifts on a few different coloured elite grips, all wrapped exactly the same way up to the cone.
Compared to white,
red shifts bp by 5mm lighter
gray 4mm lighter
black, light blue 3mm lighter
pink 2mm lighter
Meaning that red is the heaviest of these colours above and white is the lightest. (I was surprised that gray weighs a tad more than black.)
So keep these points in mind when choosing your colours as that will affect your final bp to some degree, especially if you frequently switch between red and white.

Could you possibly test yellow Visor? I'm currently thinking of going for a BG66UM yellow with yellow grip colour combo lol.
