I see alot of doubles players put their hands behind their back signaling their partner what serve their going to use. What do they mean though? 1 finger = short serve? 2 fingers = ? 3 fingers = high serve? 4 fingers = ? me and my partner only use 1 and 2 fingers where 1 means a short serve to any direction and 2 means flick serve any direction
Often times, when you serve, the opponent may change positons/lean forwards more/ expect a flick (perhaps you changed your stance) thus you cannot plan where to serve until the last moment. If you throw out signals and you do something else because you see it's such an easy/open shot, you'll screw over your partner.
fingers are meaningless in a higher game. I know some people use it but it hardly changes anything it just their preference. I'll see u in about a week deathsticks. What position are you this year?
I personally don't like hand signals, it makes me lose my concentration on my actual serve. I think your partner should be able to determine what serve you will make by the position of the receiver... but as some have mentioned, it doesnt really make that much of a difference.
go away elliot you're too old. I lost my number 1 position today because i lost to my number too. Blah what a bad day. hope he doesnt look my number 1 seed spot
