Hi .. I recently started playing badminton after a gap of 7-8yrs,a month ago...i hurt my shoulder attempting a backhand clear (actually i'm to blame for not warming up properly). At that time i experienced pain in my right shoulder( guess its called the deltoid muscle..anyway it hurt at just below the point where the shoulder muscles sink when the arms are outstreched at 90 degrees to the side of the body) I visited a general physician who prescribed 2 weeks rest and some anti-inflamatory tables and cream.I honestly rested for a week but then my enthusiasm got the better of me ...and i started playing again..though bit cautiously this time. Since the past 1 week i began to feel discomfort while raising my arm over my shoulder though this time the point of pain is near about the junction of the deltiod and the biceps... But the funny thing is tht the discomfort disappears after warming up a bit and my shoulder doesnt hurt at all while playing...However.....once when i cool down it comes back after 1-2hours. Is it something serious....? has anyone had similar experiences
Yeah, it's serious, unless you want chronic problems I suggest you take it easy and not play. I had the same problem a little while ago and ignored it and just tried to be careful. The pain will get worse and worse as you progress. What you are doing is tricking the muscles with activity, the same reason why when you have pain in your body and you set it off enough it feels numb, then the pain will come back with a vengeance.
Hi lord ...how long did ur injury take to heal....did u just give ur sholuder rest or take medications too..? thanks in advance
Well it really depends on your age and the frequency. I was stupid as a child and I didn't take care of it so it took about two to three months (I was about 13 or so) now I have chronic problems but if I take care of it properly now it should be fine in about a week to two weeks. ps. pls don't call me lord lolol it's lordofthefart lolol
My apologies Lorofthefart.... i'm 25..so i guess i better call it quits for 2-3 weeks then by the way...are you telling that your injury has resulted in chronic pain :O
Sort of I injure it very easily but see I'm younger than you still. At the same time I have other medical problems, according to my doctor. But he was one of the many people that gave me that advice lol. Actually I had a similar injury but a lot worse in my knees if you're interested to know what happens when you keep making it worse. I tore all the ligaments in my right knee and it feels about the same but to a much greater degree. Now when I use my knee for long periods of time (actually not that long really 30mins) they will hurt. It's more of an extreme long term case if you don't take care of it, or so says me doctor lol.
pls do warming up for your front , side and back deltoids. if u dun not know how to do it , pls ask me.
@ lordofthefart....OUCH...!! @ Extremenanopower...thanks for ur advise ....doin just that..resting ...probably thts bcoz..i have examz starting nextweek @blindaim... well i wud be greatful if u could guide me on the warming up exercises. For the time being...i'm going to go easy on my sholuder...By the way..if u cud also suggest some strenthening exercise for the shoulder it would be great help...after searching the forums..i realized that the shoulder is the most injury prone area thanks inadvance
First of all , shoulder has quite a few muscle. Simple term is 1) Front Deltoid 2) On Top Deltoid 3) Back Deltoid 4) Teres Major Teres Major allow u to rotate your shoulder.
