Ok, so I just purchased my first pair of badminton shoes.

Yonex shb 101's with the lateral claw. (the red ones)

My feet are not wide, and not flat feet, just normal feet.

I have only worn them twice, so maybe its a bit early. The first time, they felt great, very supportive. It was a big difference to my previous, non-badminton specific shoes.

The second time I wore them, after about an hour, I could feel the lateral claw part pushing against my foot when I wasn't moving, it was like a dull pain. However it felt ok and supportive when moving about.

Any feedback on the lateral claw, I assume it doesnt soften up too much, but do your feet get used to it?

May need more time to break in.

Try wearing older socks which tend to be thinner and more worn in, so that you have more lateral space in the shoe.

Ah, thats a good point, first time I wore them, I was wearing old socks (good feel), second time I wore them with brand new badminton socks... could be right :)

Oddly enough, I have to have my laces very tight to decrease the pain of my lateral claw when i was first breaking them in. Now they're fine, but I still need to lace tightly, tighter than my previous shoes which did not have lateral claws. Is that typical?

I'd also suggest an insole like superfeet. One of the reasons your feet flatten out and get wider is because you have no arch support.

would you really replace the wave insoles in the SHB101? their brand new and, all thought I haven't tried my new SHB101 LTD yet because is spring break, I looked and tried them on. The insoles are really nice.

I actually have no idea how well the insoles in the 101 are like since I replace all my insoles immediately. You're talking about a shoe that probably costs $10-$15 to make.. the insole might be $0.50 of that. Superfeet, while inflated in cost, retail for $40-$60 each.

Before I started using after market insoles I would notice the stock insole breaking down and starting to lose support after around 5 hours of use. Superfeet have a hard plastic bottom which will support your arch (in the right place) for 5-10 times longer.

Maybe take a look through Dinkalot's shoe and insole review.

It's like two support pillars sustaining the feet in place when moving laterally (sideway), movement would be more swift & agile.

Getting a pair of Superfeet Insoles are definitely worth the value.

Except if you get the Greens, you gotta be warned that the hard patterns on the bottom of the insole will damage the inside of your shoe eventually.

True enough but by then I'd be getting a new pair of shoes anyway.
