PETALING JAYA: Lee Chong Wei’s triumph at the 100th edition of the All-England may still be savoured by the country at the moment but the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) may have to deal with a more pressing matter.
The president, Datuk Mohd Nadzmi Salleh, gave instructions yesterday to initiate disciplinary action against honorary secretary Gangga Rao for alleged misconduct.
Gangga, who is into his second term of office, is expected to be served with the suspension letter when he returns home from Australia today.
Nadzmi has the power to suspend the secretary but it is learnt that he informed all the exco members before reaching the decision.
The BAM management refused comment on the matter but Nadzmi’s move is prompted by recent developments on sponsorship issues.
Nadzmi is said to be left in the dark on the association’s recent tie-up with ING Insurance Bhd to become the official sponsors of the national team.
Nadzmi, who is also the Proton Holdings chairman, is leaving today for Germany for medical treatment after suffering a stroke recently.
BAM already have Proton and Yonex on board as their main sponsors.
