Any opinions why Ji doing badly this year? My suggestions :

    1) Can't get over shock of winning Olympics

    2) Not peaked yet, probably waiting for Seville

    3) Can't cope with Gopichand/Prakash deceptive mode,

remember 1981 world cup Prakash/Han Jian, 1980 All

England Liem SK/ Prakash? If so, there could be more to

    speed and power.

    4) Need to have more variety in game, remember he

mentioned after Olympics that he has no game plan, he

plays a game at a time.

    5) Playing conditions not conducive.

I'm only guessing, some of you who watched him recently

    should be able to clarify/confirm..

I think Ji won the Olympics only because Xia didn't get to finals. There was a thread posted earlier on the styles of Xia and Ji and Hendrawan as well i think. Hendrawan is a master of deception. He defeated Xia using his deceptive skills but was unable to overcome Ji as Ji is a very fit player.

Though Hendrawan mostly beats Xia, he also mostly loses to Ji. Now that Ji and Hendrawan are out of the All England. I think Xia Xuanze will win it. As he defeated Gade in Sydney.

Or maybe, Gopichand of India will pull off a suprise victory? We're just going to have to wait and see........

Maybe not Ji's fault. As some of you said, China produces

fresh faces, people get used to them, they don't change , and

out they go, replaced by youngsters.Even Gade had to do a

Houdini 3 times.Maybe outstanding players with a simple game

are great targets for young hopefuls who study their game

carefully, people like Sun Jun, Yang Yang, Zhao kept

improving and changing, others didn't. Kwun was mentioning

about value of good coaches/mentors previously.

Gade nearly lost all his three games but came from behind

using his unique magic. He admitted playing badly and being

    too tired.

I guess he's not going to have many good days like the Olympics.

Of course he fully deserved the Olympic title (beating Taufik, Gade, Hendrawen) but he may have lost the "hunger" since then.
