Hi all, I've seen a lot of posts where people use something called "athletic tape" to increase the head heaviness of their racquets, and I'm quite interested in doing this too. I'm just wondering if athletic tape is just like a regular grip (yonex super grap). If it's not just something like a regular grip, can someone link me to a dealer of this "athletic tape"? Thanks!
where are you located? i've got bunch that i can let go for about 50 cents per roll. athletic tape is those you use to tape injuries and such. simliar to hockey tape
Hi, Instead of the actual elastic athletic tape that the physiotherapist and kinesiologist uses, which tend to be quite expensive and comes in big rolls, I use what is called "stick" tape for use in hockey to provide grip on the handle and blade. It's quite thin and only 3/4 inch wide, mildly adhesive cloth and comes in various colours that you can choose to match your racket colours. Should be only $2-3CAD at places that sell hockey equipment. About 6-8 inches of it on the frame changed the bp of my racket by 6-10mm.
Athletic tape is kinda like an adhesive bandage that one can use for sprained ankles and stuff like that. I use it to tape up my hands when I play too much and get blisters and keep it around in my bag in case someone else or myself sprains something. You should be able to find it just about any local pharmacy or sports store...I bought a package of 5 from Zellars.
If you want the clean look of the racquets like LCW, BCL and LD, you will have to use the 1cm to 1/2" tapes. The typical racquet frame does not have much width to accommodate more than 1/2" of tape on each side without obstructing the grommet holes. I use 1/2" Zinc Oxide tapes for my racquets for you reference.
because this is lighter and thinner, this gives better and more even distribution of the weight on the frame... supposedly better for control and off centre hits.
I'm quite interested, what's the width in the tape you have? And i'm in Toronto/Scarborough/Markham Yea I like that clean look and even distribution, um... where can i get stuff like zinc oxide tape? LOL THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL THE RESPONSES!
Athletic tape can probably be found at national sports, sportchek, or shoppers ask the people that work there
Is it me or zinc oxide tape is athletic tape but with a more scientific name??? Gonna go to sportchek to have a look around. BP 295mm isn't enough for me.
I like electric tape myself. Never used athletic tape, but I'm always afraid they leave that adhesive residue behind when you remove it. Electric tape doesn't have that problem
If you can get I highly suggest you get lead weight tape, the stuff I got was specifically made for altering BP, brand called "Pacific" and it works really well. Comes in 6gm strips you cut to suit your own preference. (some other threads on it im pretty sure)
yup, this lead tape are frequently used to alter the weight & head-light/head-heavy balance of the racquets. many racquet companies make these including Pacific,Babolat,Unique to name a few.
blitzzards ship one of your at700s to me in taiwan so I can try it!!111 also...bcl and lcw also add to the top of their racket? i know nothing about bcl but lcw does? i'm using 3m micropore tape (prob like 1.5cm in width) and it works pretty well (maybe would be better if it were a tad wider) - put on 4-5 layers i don't really feel a difference but it also protects the frame when i pick up the shuttle from crappy court surfaces so yay when the top layer gets dirty i just tear it off and replace that one
