Great links...very informative... one thing i was wondering, that i couldn't find more info from those links, and sorry for the hijacking, but how does the placement of the tapes on the racket head affect the head heaviness or swing speed/feel? LD placed (very hardcore) around half of the whole rackethead, while others suggest either 11 and 1, or 9 and 3, and some guy put just one tape at 12 o'clock. Length varies. So how does those placements differ?
@gapperon: Why would you want to make a badminton more head heavy? The key of the game is to be agile and explosive.. Having a head heavy Badminton racquet will make it sluggish (imo)
vincent...i am not really looking to make it super headheavy...i am using the a900t now and it's just a little headheavy but super agile. anyway i am also just curious of the different modifications with the tape that increases the headheaviness and just wonder how do they differ!
oh okay, in tennis lead added @ 3+9 oclock widens the "sweetspot" of the racquet @ 12 it sifts the spot up and @ the Handle it shifts it down, its a quick generalization but hey lol. I tried adding lead to my Ti5 cuz i found it too light compared to my tennis racquet but after a while i felt like making some changes so i took it off and it felt way better, cuz of the increased racquet Head speed.
thanx for the quick generalization, but i think it is a really quick one! hahaha now i have more questions than i asked for! how does 3+9 "widen" the sweetspot? in terms of headheaviness, any lead sticking to the head of the racket will make it so, whereas sticking it to the handle will decrease it. but.... how does the overall headheaviness feels comparing between 3+9, 12, and 11+1? does 3+9 gives you more 'lateral' swing motion, and 12 gives you more downward swingthrough motion, or 11+1 is the mix of the two???? *whao, that sounds really ridiculous but it's as intelligent guess as an ignorant!"*
i know i gotta try it to learn first hand for myself, but any sneak peaks into the "what" and the "why" would be great for a new week!
though its on customizing tennis racquets its pretty useful info. http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/LC/customize.html
In theory, having the added weight (ie. light thin tape) more evenly distributed along the top of the frame (a la Lin Dan) would be better than at one or two points (eg. lead weight), in terms of off centre or off axis hits.
Weight at the top of the frame gives the most extra power (longest lever and all that). Weight at the sides gives the best stability on off-centre hits. Adding weight to handle is pointless - it makes the balance more head-light, but the racket won't swing any faster because the mass of the frame has not changed. Prince add Tungsten (very dense) at the 2 and 10 o'clock positions on their "Triple Threat" rackets, in an effort to increase both power and stability.
