Hi all, I need to pick your brains here. My main setup is a couple of TC700 strung with BG80@28lbs. I have a racket that I will use only occasionally. I will like to maintain a sufficiently close string feel to the BG80@28lbs but will like to be cheap on restringing. My target is to keep the string on this racket for at least 6 months. I am considering using a thicker, longer lasting string at a higher tension for it to drop to my preferred tension. E.g. I can string with BG65@31lbs and the tension should settle at 28 +/- 1lbs. Is that thinking sound?
For now, if we ignore the specific string, I wonder if that approach is correct? Note in particular that most strings will not hold those kind of tensions for over 2 months. I am expecting the tension to drop more drastically for the first week or so but will the string still be playable after 3-4 months? Thanks for the recommendation of BG70pro. Will research that string .
How about Ashaway zymax 67 white? Since thickness about the same. And tension maintaining is good too
quite sound thinking, Weeyeh. I also agree with the BG70 pro recommendations. I have stringed a couple of my rackets with it for 5 months at a time, and it has dropped no more than a pound, though i don't play more than 3 hours a week unless i have more time.
Thanks all... I should be stringing up the racket in the next two days. huangxl, any idea where I can get the Zymax strings? I'll probably give that string a go if its not ridiculously expensive. Otherwise, it looks like we probably have a winner with the BG70pro . jumbalaya, your frequency seems even higher than what I'll potentially use the racket. . I expect at most 5hrs exposure every month for the racket. What starting tension are those rackets and how do they play relative to when freshly strung?
At mustafa centre it is 7.20 i saw. For queensway i check with newlink sports it is $9 per pack. I am not sure what price the rest selling. My guess is 7 to 9 dollars. That is just purely for string as i am quite sure you will use mr soh or someone else. Classic does not have zymax just for ur information.
Update: Strung 1 of those rackets at 30lbs with BG70Pro... will test it out tomorrow. Hope I like it . Btw, I got the Zymax67 at Mustafa @ S$7.80 but felt like trying that on my TC700 instead.
Thanks all. Anyway, this is the cheapie racket with BG70pro strung to 30lbs. Pretty good overall but a bit slow due to a bit too much flex in the shaft. I had a bit of problem getting to the fast drives. Otherwise, power and control surprised me at being quite good at least for now. Will keep an eye on this experiment.
im going to string Apacs AMP88 with BG70pro for my father... he is waaay to strong for BG80/85/95/98/66...every shot of his going outside also he love durable strings and tension holding strings.
sorry for replying so late, but i find that the playability may not feel the exact same, though it is not too significant imo. I found that the feel and grip of the string improved a a bit over time too. but, it may be because i was getting used to it.
No worries buddy. I'm already down the road of the BG70pro. Tension held for the last 2 weeks. The string feels quite a bit softer than the BG80 but that could be as much due to the racket as the string. Feel is pretty good, repulsion is very good for a "thick" string, and I like the texture. The suggestion for BG70pro is working out for me so far. I'm quite surprised that I am playing the racket more than I expected -- sometimes just too lazy to change back to my precious TC700. Incidentally, the TC700 received a rather hard knock on Tue evening which ripped about 2cm of paint away. It felt strong enough that I continued playing and checked the extent of the "damage" only after the rally (which we won ). But that's exactly the accident I was trying to prevent. Will report back in another month or so.
Nah.. I sort of discounted all the NBG's and Ti strings due to their texture (or lack of). I used the NBG98 on a racket once and hated it enough to avoid using the racket altogether. Same with the BG68Ti. That said, the NBG95 has pretty decent durability so will be a great string for a similar experiment .
