Badminton manufacturers are to produce rackets for left-handed players

This might sound strange. Today, it’s heard that Badminton manufacturers are going to produce special rackets for left-handed players

To me, there is only one difference between a racket for a right-handed player and one for a left-handed.

Are there other differences that we do not know?

Interesting this should come up - on a UK toolmaker's website today I have seen an announcement regarding left handed hammers and saws. I wonder if this difference applies here as well.

Presumably the rackets in question use some kind of ergonomically designed grip, instead of the regular octagonal one, and therefore must be available in both left- and right-handed versions (there's already a thread here about a racket like this, designed to help with backhands). I can't thing what other differences there could be.

I'm always skeptical about anything that's supposed to be ergonomically designed, but with a badminton racket it could be even worse - since you will still need to change grip, which could be awkward.

Also, there will probably be quite a limited range of rackets available, and I'm sure the benefits of having a racket with the right specs (weight, balance, flex) easily outweigh the benefits of having a racket with a special grip.

    On a side note:
I've always wondered if you could make a racket with an asymmetrical frame cross-section, such that it's aerodynamics are improved on one side. That way, you could sacrifice a little power on your backhand shots for a little extra on your forehand shots, which is where you really need it (smashes & clears).

I'm guessing this post relates to the date. As a left handed racket is the same as the right.... It's not as though a hexagon shaped grip behaves any differently in either hand.

To make it more ergonomic, change the grip!

April fools! (I hope, or I now look rather silly).

I'm guessing the left handed hammer and saw is also a similarly designed prank. Surprised sky hooks and skirting board ladders weren't also on the tool website!

Hehe - well, at least we got Sketchy:p. The AA today had tales of jetpack-equipped mechanics, and Yahoo told us that the clocks would be going forward again due to the recent bad weather in UK...

My gold medal goes to BMW, who two years ago introduced "cloaking paint" to make cars invisible. Who says Germans have no sense of humour:D.

Oh! I've also heard that they're gonna produce shuttlecocks with different overlaps. Instead of right over left, they'll arrange the feathers left over right. This will produce even better aerodynamics and durability.

How do we know that a racket belongs to a left-handed player?

    .
OK then, let's continue with the topic.

Question: When we see a racket, how do we know that it belongs to a left-handed player?

Easy! The strings on the forehand side are more worn down than the backhand side, as everyone knows, due to birds being hit on the forehand more often. ;)
